Okay. I have an unaffiliated character right now that will never join any faction. He's only level 12, and I've determined that he will never ever buy a freighter or transport of any kind. He's going to work his way up the ladder in fighters - especially light fighters.
Now, he's a self-styled adventurer who prefers Kusari space, Omicrons, Sigmas, and Taus. That's where he'll be spending most of his time. So he's going to need to have a tag that Outcasts are cool with, but that won't get him slaughtered in New Tokyo. I plan to eventually - in a few months, most likely, since he'll never own a freighter - have him get a cap, working his way up to the maximum of a destroyer or cruiser. The idea is that he's going to wind up living on this ship.
So his alignment must allow him pretty free reign in the northern half of Sirius, and access to ships that perform well in asteroids and the like. And he can't be a Zoner, because he'll be taking occasional mercenary work and I wanna blow stuff up, too.:P
I haven't gotten to spend much time in north Sirius yet, so I'm not terribly familiar with the politics there; not like I am in Rheinland and Bretonia. So, could some of you that have more experience in that area and are more familiar with how the factions there relate to each other recommend a tag for me? Pretty please?
Also, I haven't yet made up his backstory. I'm going to make it up when I figure out what his alignment is going to be.:P
The Freelancer tag is reportedly very difficult to get, though; the point of this character is that I can just have fun, RP and explore, without worrying so much about getting and/or maintaining a difficult alignment. If I'm reading FLStat correctly, the only way to get a Freelancer tag is to blow up Zoners and/or Bounty Hunters.
The part about being sympathetic to bounty hunters is something I considered, though I don't like the BHG Destroyer. (if I wanna fly a Star Wars ship, I'll go play a Star Wars game:P) Partly because doing missions at BHG stations is just about the best way to make decent money in a fighter.
Hmm...looking over the infocards, it looks like being a Bounty Hunter with Outcast sympathies might be my best bet. Just take BHG missions on everyone except Outcasts and their allies, and it should work out...hmm. Not sure, though. I think this might wind up being more a case of "what fits best" rather than "what fits."
To get on the Outcasts good side, kill lots of Corsairs. Then, that should, should, get you cool with the BHG, too. I dunno, all my chars end up with the BSG hating them...
