it's again one of these day on which I want to share a crazy game feature idea with you all.
Before I joined the discovery server I used to play on the Hamburg city server.
One of the most interesing features of this mod are the webmissions.
for those of you who havent heard about this feature, here is how it works.
They synchronized every players char with the websites/forums account.
That means, you login your char not only on the gamesever but on the website.
1. On this website you select a base and then you see a list of trade missions you can fly.
2. After selecting the mission... (eg. bringing 2700 or more tons of a commodity to a certain base)
3. You alt tab to the game, buy the commodity and launch you ship.
4. In space you hit a preset key which instantly starts the webmission.
Pro: For each unit of cargo you get an amount of bonus cash (around 2k per ton)
PLUS: you can hire some escorts which get paid automatically and independantly. Usually they get as much as there is in the bonus pot (calculate 2000*5000
Con: As soon as you start the mission there is a serverwide broadcast ("Derpie" has left "Freepoint less" with "5000" tons of "puffed rice" heading to "Planet Manhattan")
5. After reaching its destination, the convoy lands, sells his stuff and hits the button again.
6. ????
7. Profit!
And not only Profit - this feature would make the game for pirates, escorts/BHG, and traders more interesting than it is now. No more silent powertraders, as they have to face more pirate encounters now!
Webmissions on HS server are always fun, BUT they lack all the cool ships and new gadgets, that the disco server offers. A combinatio nof both would really kick some butt PLUS it is realizable!
Where these webmissions created by the player base or were they merely default missions designed by a dev/admin? If created by an admin/dev I assume the bonus for the mission was generated by the server. If by a player base I assume they player creating it funded the bonus?
This wouldn't kill silent power traders unless it the webmisions became a requirement and you couldn't buy the good unless you accept the mission on the forums. As the current administration isn't of the mind that playing on the server requires a membership there is a conflict here.
Might be an interesting way to implement the player driven deliveries and such though.

As the current administration isn't of the mind that playing on the server requires a membership there is a conflict here.
-These missions are available on central NPC stations (Malta, Manhattan, Berlin etc..)
-They are not randomly generated.
-There is no need to be a forum member in order to play the game, but in order to get the webmissions, there is.
That actually sounds like a great idea. This would also open up the possibility for several other types of missions.
For example, a patrol mission. You would set a series of waypoints and fly to each one. The further the waypoint is and the more NPCs you destroy along the way, the more money you get. And like the trade mission, your patrol route is displayed system-wide so that enemies can intercept you. This would make a more believable way of finding a fight, rather than attacking stations and planets.
Or perhaps a fleet destruction mission. A group of capital ships with fighter escorts spawn several kilometers off the plane, and you're to take a few buddies and destroy them. The fleet's position will be displayed system-wide, so allies of the target could join in the battle. Again, a way to find a fight without trolling the bases.

Precisely. It is very good idea. For starter, maybe make it jsut for the forum people and have it announced on server, so it encourages people to join forums for the trade. Extra bonuses.
Also, player driven alot. Put in requests, have FLhook count towards deliveries and then automatically remove the request. OSsim.
