I've been playing a Trader and will keep my Roleplay straight. That means i will have to accept been pirated some times. No problem. I will pay all taxes, which will not ruin me.
I will never pay taxes to pirates, which are sitting right beside a police or military station, waiting for traders. This is complete nonsense and i hate arguments like "The police would never been able to protect you."
In this case i will go out of roleplay and commit suizide.
I will never pay taxes to pirates, which are demanding an exaggerated tax in comparison to my cargo, holdsize and char lvl.
In this case i will try to run or fight.

Bravo Bravo!!! Encore!!!
And just because I expect to be pirated doesn't mean i won't run or hire an escort to keep you scallywags off of me.
Of course, docking on a station is an argument. I can and will try it too. I'm a bit experienced noob and have not reconized all opportunities yet, but i will become better.

Respectful

Remember, any ship can dock with the mooring fixture, and its alot faster than the docking ring. ;)
Sitting beside a station.... you mean that the station/police is not shooting at them?
Cause I think I pirated once or twice next to something like that... once even in front of New Berlin - after I chased someone there... but there were 2 BS and 4 Cruisers shooting at me... so I had my hands quite full dodging/talking/shooting CDs.

"To gain a hundred victories in a hundred battles is not the highest excellence;
to subjugate the enemy's army without doing battle is the highest of excellence."
Oh dear oh dear, seems we are not getting through with our recommendations concerning pirates, and their
abilities to be docking on lawful bases ... Think a little reminder of your reputation responsibilities may be in
order if we catch you ...
Unfair to traders, and out of roleplay.

I am usually getting blasted by NPCs while I pirate near bases and planets. So I'm in as much danger as you are.
I typically demand the following based on character level and ship size.
500,000 for levels 30-40 and those flying Freighters
1,000,000 for levels 40-50 and those flying small Transports
2,000,000 for levels 50 and higher and those flying medium to large Transports
I think this is pretty reasonable ... but traders (regardless of character level, ship size and cargo) tend to give me the "I'd rather die than pay" or "I never pay pirates."
