I dont really know if you realized but, this is factionlancer now. You'll never befriend people by flying ingame, sadly. You just join a faction, spam skype and then fly with those people later on, on your indies as well.
Being an indie is lonely, yes.

....
And in all honesty, that's the sad reality of it now. Being an indie is free - but very lonely.
Make an indie pirate. In two seconds you will meet other pirates, and together you can roam all of Sirius for a day, on a very casual basis. It's a great way to meet other players and have fun together, without having to join a faction and dealing with that.
Okay you guys. Come on. Seriously. Seriously you guys. You guys. Seriously. Come on.
Stop making this thread about things (and people) that it's not. I don't want to clean up anymore posts accusing or attacking another player for any reason. If you have a problem with someone's actions, you can let them know privately.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic, already in progress.

I've been here for five, and have noticed absolutely no difference. Honestly, .83 and .84 were atrocious for good RP, partly due to most of the server being clustered in NY, Tau 31 (.83 Harris run) or Sigma 13 (.84 Diamond/Niobium run).
It's all cyclic. There is no great "death of the community". Not yet, anyway. Case in point.

There are certain characters/types of characters that people will go out of their way to avoid interacting with - so for some, .86 might as well be .84.
But the real issue is the lack of fun. Yes, .83 and .84 were horrible for RP, but the ages of chaos were fun and constistently fun.

Depends what shade of rose your glasses are made of. I seem to recall all the screaming, winging, bitching and crying.
The problem here is probably the fact that you've been a member since '06 - that's six years of doing exactly the same thing.
Of course you're going to get bored. Of course things are going to get stale. Of course you're going to reminisce on the past, when things seemed more fun, because they were fresh and new. S'just the way things go.
That's not this place changing in any meaningful way. That's just the vets getting bored and jaded and commenting on it.

Well'p, I've also taken a lot of that time away from the game. You want to know when I had the most fun? Beginning of .85, when I had my loldente, and generated daily QQ in New York blowing up anything and everything I could within the limits of the rules. Sadly, I guess I could say I 'grew up'.
But your post has led me to another interesting thought. The 'old' game was nothing but whining and QQ about something or someone having an advantage over someone else - as well as the RP aspect being a lot more relaxed. But the way I see it now, it's still QQ'ing, whining about how someone has the upper hand somehow, the only difference is that roleplay is now strongly enforced. (So now it's the same old PvP heavy environment with fluff around it).
So jammi, if you would take a moment to see things from my current perspective, I ask you this: What if part of the problem is the fact that not much has changed?

Point one, very much agreed.
Point two, that probably is the problem, yes. None of the mindsets have really changed over the long years (although some of the clan-based actions that happened in early Discovery were really hilarious and happen no longer).
The mindset of the community probably won't change though, seeing as it's all made of people, and what we see as a result is a boiling pot of competing interests. Ergo, Q_Q.
