***Ageira Technologies Dossier: Ian Cartwright***
***Encoding: CLASSIFIED - DOSSIER CLOSED***
***Employee Status: CONTRACT TERMINATED***

Credentials: Received Ph.D. in Software Engineering from the New Massachusetts Institute, worked 3 years in Ageira Technologies ID/IFF Software Bug Testing Unit, 1 year as technician in Self-Iterative Robotics lab, 2 years in PROJECT NAME REDACTED Shipboard Artificial Intelligence Program

Psychological Profile: Unusually high score in ethics testing, mild security risk.

***Appended: Personal note from project lead***

Dr. Cartwright is a very driven man, and I have no problem believing that, once the design phase of our project is complete, he will find himself in charge of a laboratory of his own. However, I write this letter to advise any future project co-ordinators or potential corporate sponsors about the particularities of his personality and the details of his work.

Firstly, as I said, he is an extremely driven man. During the course of this project he has worked tirelessly bug-testing and revising in order to make absolutely sure that the Project will meet its expected deadlines. However, he fails to see the purpose of our experiments. Rather than focus on PROJECT INFORMATION REDACTED he instead has attempted to improve the cognitive circuitry and iterative learning algorithms beyond the capabilities we require for completion. While this is a great benefit to our understanding of artificial intelligences and the potential future applications thereof, I suggest a strong hand on the reins and project budget from anyone overseeing Dr. Cartwright's endeavors.

Secondly, I feel obligated to divulge that Dr. Cartwright has been involved in multiple verbal altercations with staff and fellow researchers regarding the Project, and has become increasingly irritable when pressed about details of his code and research. He appears to be reticent to allow the product of his work to be involved in what he calls PROJECT INFORMATION REDACTED and his further employment at Ageira may very well be contingent on the amount of useful information he is allowed to know.

***Appended: Notice of Termination***

Though exonerated of the theft of critical Ageira property and information, his active role in impeding the internal investigation regarding the circumstances of the disappearance of CLASSIFIED and associated research personnel has led me to believe that he is no longer acting as a contributing member of the corporation.

Regrettably, Mr. Cartwright's contract has officially been terminated and his severance package revoked.

Signed,
Roger Gordon, Ageira Internal Affairs

The Corsairs had definitely held up their end of the bargain, that much was certain. The white, tamper-proof shipping containers were still freshly marked with the Deep Space Engineering holographic quality seal. Each of the ten boxes contained hundreds of assembled Quantum Multiplexors and ship-board biocomputer boards, likely stolen from a trade lane construction site or an unlucky shipping pilot. But now they were here, and that meant that Ian was far from caring who had owned them before they made planetfall.

"One hundred thousand in secured credit cards, they're yours." He handed off the briefcase to a large man of obvious Hispanic descent, and stepped towards the first of the sealed crates.

"Not so fast, Senor."

A grimace played across Ian's face for a brief moment.

"Someone's offering more. Thanks for the cash, though."

The feeling of a capacitor discharging made Ian's hair stand on end. He turned, watching the tail end of the Corsair's light show dissipate in the air around him. "Do you think I'm some sort of imbecile? Is that it?" He began walking towards the Corsair, another pulse of plasma refracting and dissipating in the air near his head. "You wanted to cheat the most intelligent man on this ball of rock, and your plan was to shoot me with that?!"

The Corsair threw his gun to the ground, drawing a long knife and gesturing at Ian. "I'll gut you like a fish, gringo!" The Corsair's men moved to grab hold of him, but two loud reports stopped them in their tracks. Ian stepped to the side, and a third loud gunshot felled the captain of the small gang. He fished in his pocket for a moment, then clicked a button on his keychain. Outside the warehouse his shuttle powered down, the ship's right-side autogun retracting into the wing and the energy dissipation shield coming offline with a faint smell of ozone in the air.

We're right on schedule.
