There won't be a cougar/madcat, I think. The game takes place before the clans invade the innersphere... I'm reading FAQ's to make sure.

Do yourself a favor and go read the non-Dark Age books. Those are.... not exactly the best representation of the setting...


Try one set during the FedCom Civil War. That's where I started.

I started with the Twilight of the Clans. Great books. I unfortunately never owned the first four but I still have V-VIII somewhere.

Also, I find this interesting:

Q. What year is MechWarrior® Online™ taking place?

A. MechWarrior® Online™ is running an offset timeline of the BattleTech® Universe. As of this writing it is 2011 and the year is 3048 within the game. In 2012, when the game is launched, it will be 3049.

It'll be like being submerged in the battletech universe, as the lostech is introduced piece by piece and then finally the clans arrive.

Oh man... this might be goodbye freelancer, depending on how they balance the actual gameplay!
