Nah, it would unbalance fighters > capital ships thingy.
Especially if the fight is ended, fighters who won going their way, and a GB comes along. Great.
What to do then?:)
You would have to be close to a friendly base all the time, to refuel.
And i don't know if it's possible, at all.
Maybe fuel separate from thrusters. But fuel as a thruster, i don't think so.

I'd try 1st with upgrading projectile speed of all fighter weapons. That way fighter/cap.ship balance would remain unchanged. Also, faster rounds would seem more like real weapons and less like "bowling" in space...

Perhaps we should modify some of the fighter shields? Besides, some of the damn NPCs get 14000+ shield strength and the highest we have is 11000 or so. Sheesh!
While being quite funny, your sig was the biggest one i've ever seen so far. No more than 700x250 please. ~utrack http://pastebin.com/SYQXBufs
I fly a vanilla VHF, the Mk II Anubis, better known as the Nephthys. Now, I do try my hardest to stay away from having missiles/mines from hitting me as 4 out of my 6 guns will die if I lose both ends of my ship (which is why I put my codenames in the middle slots, so I at least keep some sort of firepower).
Decreasing armour on ships, well maybe that's a good idea. Though I am used to my 36,250 health (14,500 x 2.5), I can easily adjust to a lower amount. Remember when we had the Mk VIII upgrade increase your armour by 2.7? That made fights even longer than they are now.
This isn't a PvP example, but here's still a good one: I took a mission from Battleship Isis, for some random amount I can't quite recall. After killing some fighters, they brought in capital ships. So I said to myself "Okay, this is gonna be pretty hard but I can get through it." I was wrong, a missile from one of the Bounty Hunter Destroyers hit me. There goes 4 out of my 6 forward guns, leaving me only with my pair of Solaris Codenames and my turret and Mini Razor. Even though I still had the capital ship killing weapon, I'm a pretty bad aim with it. Seeing as Solaris got nerfed to 4.00 rate of fire from 5.00, I was doing my best to try and drop them. Eventually after a lot of dodging of capital ship weaponry I did it. But then again, I had to suicide because I had lost a pair of Nomad guns and my Reaper Mk V's. I didn't wanna have to do that but I did.
Increasing projectile velocity may work, but I think working with mixed projectile velocities makes you a better aim overall. Currently I have a pair of Vengeance Mk V's along with my codenames and Nomad Blasters. The Vengeance has a significantly faster velocity of 750 m/s compared to the other weapons' 600 m/s. Now admittedly I'm a pretty bad aim with those because I was using all 600 m/s weapons before a couple days ago, to have everything sync up (I even had the rate of fire sync'd too, all 4.00). My reasoning for changing such a "perfect" setup is because I need to be able to perfect my skill with other weapons. If I'm in another character and say, the weapons he may have are 500 m/s or 700 m/s, I'll be no good using them if I've been using 600 m/s weapons for hours at a time.
In all honesty, to sum things up, here's my opinion: Sure, go ahead and make fighters have less armour, but you don't need to increase projectile velocity. If you can train yourselves with different rates of fire and different velocities, you'll be the master of them all and have the advantage no matter what weapons that character may have. That's all I've gotta say, really. Soon I'll swap my Vengeance out for Magma Hammers to see how I can deal with 500 m/s and 600 m/s weapons working together.
@Epholl: Ur idea might solve dogfight problems, but it would put fighter at severe disadvantage in fights against capital ships, hence changing the "holy balance".
@Ascendancy: Increasing weapon projectile speed WOULD in fact help much! Cos it's not just about "getting used" to projectile speeds that helps u hit, it's the SPEED at witch projectiles travel. Right now, with 600m/s speed, target moving at 200m/s, small and maneuverable as most fighters are, can easily dodge shots. 700m/s projectiles with 4.0 re-fire are MUCH better for "fast movers", but even those are useless if target is really "fast" and dedicated to dodging. Now I'm not TALKING ABOUT DUELS, nor talking about "hitting fighter that is targeting you". I'm talking about fights in which fighter, chasing target that is not targeting him, has little or no chance to do significant damage on it. And that makes fights REALLY LONG and it sucks...Like I said: Like jet dogfight, but shooting pistols at each other...

There's nothing wrong with gun speeds as they are now, even when chasing a fighter. Mjolnir, for example when fighting on a team with me as RM tends to hit more often chasing with 4 600m/s speed, firing at 2.00, more often than I do going head on with 4 750m/s. It's about learning to work with what you have, also if you're so desprate for guns that fire at 700m/s and refire at 4.00 or faster, there's these wonderful civilian guns called an Improved Debilitator , and a Heavy Flashpoint.

There's PLENTY wrong with guns as they're now. Exactly why this subject was opened in the 1st place. I've been to more then few "2 on 2" or more fights by now (even some against you and Mjolnir). And my observation stands: fighters weapons have lousy speed, and lousy re-fire, and dogfights tend to be tedious and boring (on top of that, some people tend to bring capital ships to dogfight to supply their fighters with EVEN MORE nanobots..sheeesh).
Most "wonderful civilian" (or any other fast speed/fast refire) guns, have ridiculously small damage for decent re-fire, making equation pretty much the same...
I don't really see any wrong in upgrading projectile speeds. Why are some people so tough on accepting ideas and changes? Why this game has to be set in stone? It wasn't from the moment it got modded. Why not enhance it further?

I don't mind change I just happen to think things through before rushing towards a change. For one it makes no sense to upgrade something to make it easy for everyone when others work hard to get good with what they have. Also, this just makes it too easy, and then the people you thought were good before, you're whining for things to be changed back because now they're "uber" there's cons to go with the pros boy, back to the lab.
100 speed isn't a drastic difference.
I can tell you for certain that if someone is good in dodging, he will still be good at it, if wep speed is improved.
But there is a chance for someone with lousier aim to hit, yes.
And it should be like that.
They will still be lousy in hitting good dodgers, but at least they will have a chance.
Your argument that someone worked hard to learn is not valid. Because this server is changing.
For example, someone worked hard to kill fighters with old Dual Novas. And they got ditched.
And now he has a Supernova (a lot harder to hit, more energy, only one shot) and he has to learn to hit better.
As i said, i'm all for both options. I don't mind improving damage either, but i can see a horde of capital ship users protesting here.
That's why i think speed is maybe a better option.
