I installed one with an installer it was in german and there was no selection of a directory you just clicked next once from the intro page and that was all...

Maybe that folder is set as invisible/hidden? Check that and see if making the folder visible let's you find it.

I've tried to get it to work with 4.86, but I installed Discovery to the AppData folder, which the directory selector doesn't show.

You can't see it because it's invisible by default in Windows. Press Alt in Explorer to get to the menu bar at the top of the window. Press "Tools" -> "Folder options..." -> Open the "View" tab -> "Hidden files and folders" -> Click "Show hidden files, folders, and drives". Then use the directory selector in FLC as you usually would.

That should fix it.

Meh, I changed the folder at installation the Disco one, yet I'm still stuck with it reading the Freelancer files...
I'm really thinking of deleting my vanilla backup install and just have the cds as the backup to see if it works.

Edit: This is regarding Datastorm, the Companion works alright.
