On Fort Bush, right next to the LPI HQ, there is this cozy big cafe called Sunbucks. No one knows which one was there first, the HQ or the Sunbucks, but everyone knows this: it's a symbiotic relationship. The LPI is in a need of a place to take their breaks, and has the money to pay, while the Sunbucks likes to sell coffee, doughnuts, and pastries, to make money, understandably.

Due to the continued patronage of its favorite costumers, Sunbucks has devoted an entire section of the cafe to the LPI, for their private use. It's on a slightly elevated platform, tucked away in a corner. It has a slew of two people tables, as well as some designed with four in mind. The wall paneling is mahogany, and the tables, floor, and railing matches flawlessly.

A number of officers sit around chatting it up, telling of their (few) exploits, eating doughnuts, and, of course, griping. About pay, patrol, those darned Xenos and their Hawks, and so on and so forth. There is also a sign put up on the railing that encircles the space for the LPI, that says: Leave all paperwork at the office.

Matt Myers stood up from his chair, and raised his coffee mug a bit. He was in his late forties, brown hair streaked with gray. Slightly overweight, nonetheless surprisingly light on his feet, for a man of his girth.

"Thank god we're not the Kusari, Bretonian, or Rheinland police," he said, by way of some sort of toast. Everyone raised their coffee mugs a few inches off the table, then they all fell back at the same moment. Not much enthusiasm, there. Maybe they were wondering what was so good about being LPI, for that matter.

"First, the Cavalier Bretonian light fighter is the most ugly ship I've ever laid eyes on." Some more mugs rose a bit further than before; the Patriot, did indeed look good.

"Second, Bretonia and Kusari are at war, so while the Navy is off fighting where ever the hell they fight, the police have to take care of everything at home." Several mugs rose a bit, with a few smiles around, now. What would they do if Liberty went to war and the Navy wasn't around home?

"And third, the Rheinlanders get paid even worse than us, as well as having to deal with heavy fighters a lot more than we do." Mugs all the way up, now. Everyone took a deep swig of coffee, and started talking about why everyone else had it better than them.

Just outside the Sunbucks Paul Dennis was articulately telling one of his common stories about how he on his own taught two Rouges a well deserved lesson. True is, his stories were always slightly exagerated to say at least, but all his colleagues enjoyed listening to his fable and were laughing a long just because Paul looked so funny trying hard to express mimic of a scared Rouge. Paul didnt care much if they smiled along out of rapture or making fun of him, it was good making them smiling and being the center of attention himself. Such kind of a man Paul was.

A freshly pasted poster states:

Der_Pate-[T] is wanted for smuggling and destruction of LPI property. He flies a train, and was last seen fleeing Liberty in the general direction of Bretonia. Be careful, he shows no compunctions against firing on lawful ships.

LPI-William.Nicholson Reported for duty this morning.
Dipped some doughnuts in his coffee and slurped them down loudly..
Moved along some loitering citizens, hassled some lane hackers.
Oh and gave a 20 credit ticked to a citizen for not having a ID mounted.
Time for my doughnut glaze facial at the Asian parlor in planet Pittsburgh.

LPI-William.Nicholson out, in, up, down and always around the nearest gourmet coffee shop.

Matt was sitting with a huge crowd milling about, giving a fairly exaggerated story of how he and Paul had brought down a Lane Hacker and sent him to jail.

"So first, we're patrolling California, and come up on Mojave. FIFTY (seven NPCs) Rogues, at least. The poor foo's didn't stand a chance. We blew 'em all up. Then we get a call about some Lane Hacker with hostages at California Minor. We rush over, blow 'im up, and save all the hostages (most of them died in the botched rescue attempt). Then, at least TWENTY Nomads came outta nowhere, more than likely escaped from Willard. We handed their little blue asses to 'em (there were no Nomads). Then, we took the poor foo' to Sugarland, where he's spendin' twenny-five to life there, making little toys fer children."

John Baxter enters the cafe, his head still spinning. He's quite a youngster, fresh recruit too, but that didn't prevent him from getting a promotion already. He sits down and orders an ice-cold Synth Cola. "All right people, we did it. One less Xeno Hawk flying the California space." After his last sentence, he passes out from the excitement of not returning to Fort Bush in the escape pod again. Good job John, and welcome home!

Couple of hours later...

MacMillan was the first one to talk to him. He stood right there when the doors of the escape pod opened.
"I told you you should take the rest of the day off, John. That fight was quite enough for you to handle on one day."
"Nah. What for a day at work would it be if I didn't come home in this eggshell? Besides, we caught a smuggler and handed out full cargo load of parking tickets today."
"Right. And lost three more company ships in that crazy battle. You'll never learn when is the right time to retreat John, will you?"
"Relax, I've fot the licence plate numbers of those rogues. We will get them soon enough! Barman, one Synt Cola for me and box of doughnuts for the rest of the suqad. I think I see incoming escape pods right outside of that window...."

Sam was in Sunbucks, bragging about two kills he had gotten earlier today. One was a Xeno Falcon, which had engaged him near Fort Bush, and the other was a Hacker Slip Stream in California, who was pirating a transport. Sam saved the transport and all the hostages that the Hacker was holding!
