Theta-7 Shipyards, Edge of the Omicron Minor System, December 18th, 818 A.S.
"Sir I recommend we use a titanium alloyed laminate on the Nidhogg, it should increase her armor strength considerably" The figure on the holoprojector said.
"Very well then Arthur, you have my approval, also I will contact Dr. Hunter about the AI that we need for the Nidhogg after this business with that Miller girl is concluded"Kell replied to the hologram, leaning back in his chair"Also, Arthur, is the portable projector ready to be taken to the Epsilon facility?"
"Aye it is Sir, do you want me to get Shaw and Whitcomb to transport it?" the hologram replied
"Glad to hear it Arthur, you may proceed"Kell finished
"Brilliant Colonel, I'll get right to it" the hologram finished, winking out of existence
As the holoprojector shut off, Kell heard someone entering his office and turned around to see his wife, Rebecca Tainer standing in the entrance way, her expression was grim
"Kell I have bad news" she spoke, handing him a dataslate "Those are the latest sensor readings from Iota and Delta, they indicate not just a massive Nomad fleet build up, but also a Guild Core fleet build up She paused, her expression darkening "Furthermore, I just had it confirmed, but the Mu Protocol has been enacted" she finished
Kell stared at his wife in disbelief "The Mu Protocol? Things are truly dire then, and I thought this Miller business was the tip of the iceberg..." Kell paused, letting his voice trail off "Enact the Bastion Protocol, now." Kell finished firmly, his expression turning from one of disbelief to a grim oneKell turned his chair around to face the window in his office, looking out on the Omicron Minor Nebula
"Will do" Rebecca replied curtly as she turned and walked out of the office, heading for the command centre
"So it begins, our darkest hour..." Kell whispered to himself, letting his words trail off as he spoke, glancing out the window

Shab, opportunistic cowards. How could they have found Theta 7? We're heavily defended and sensor masked? Kell thought as he ran down the station's corridor, stumbling as the station buckled under a weapons impact.
High Command has to be notified, we're unprepared for this, we need reinforcements he thought, reaching for his comlink
"Rebecca, get Admiral Ravenov on an encrypted channel, we have to notify them that we've been compromised" Kell spoke, breathing heavily into the comlink.
A few seconds later, the reply came"I cannot get a signal out, the BHG forces are jamming us" his wife said, dread filling her voice.
"Alright, grab Jordana and get to the Nidhogg and prep her for launch, I have a feeling this is going to be a short battle" Kell said switching off the comm before she could protest.
This is going to be a very short battle he thought, turning to head down to the command center.

Kell looked over at Shaw, his weapons officer, "Shaw, what's going on?" he asked.
Shaw turned to Kell"We've come under attack from a Guild detachment that separated off from the main force" he began "We're looking at a Mako with accompanying destroyer escorts and fighters" he said grimly.
Kell looked at shaw, aghast "How many." he said firmly.
"Counting the Mako, we're looking at 8 destroyers and a full wing of starfighters" Shaw replied
There's no way we can repel this kind of an assault, if they got through the mines, then there is nothing we can do He thought
"Prepare to evacuate the station, destroy all remaining projects, we've saved all we can" He said, turning to the Air group commander, Jennifer Young.
"Young, launch our starfighters, we're outnumbered, but we need to cover our evacuation" Kell stated.
Kell turned to face the remainder of the command crew "Get everyone to the evac transports now, lets move it people" he finished, watching them get to their tasks.
We're outnumbered, and if the Hunters are here, that means Toledo may have fallen already he thought, leaving the command center.

"Colonel, multiple hull breaches, the Hunters are deploying assault shuttles" Shaw said over the comlink as Kell was rushing down the hull.
"Copy that Shaw, how is the evacuation progressing?"
"Almost all personnel have reached their transports" Shaw replied
"Good, once the last have loaded, get them out of there, then get the Nidhogg's crew to their stations" Kell replied curtly, terminating the link, turning down the hall towards the station's AI core

"Rhea, I need you to activate internal defenses and begin transfer to the Nidhogg" Kell told the holographic figure in front of him.
"By your command Colonel" the AI Replied
Kell turned to the console behind him and began to punch in an access code when he heard gun fire down the corridor "Rhea, abort transfer, enact emergency directive gamma" Kell said hastily, drawing his sidearm and pulling a data storage device out of a nearby alcove.
"Acknowledged Colonel" the AI replied coldly, vanishing.
"I'm sorry Rhea, I have no other choice" he said softly as he left.
As he ran into the corridor, a pair of shots grazed his arm. Kell looked to see a trio of BHG marines gunning for him. Kell ran the opposite direction and returned fire, downing one of the marines.
He reached for his comlink "Matthias, status report on the transports, we've got boarders" he spoke.
"Tell me something I didn't know" the voice replied dryly, gunfire echoing through the comlink.
"Colonel, the last of the personnel are aboard, we're moving toward the Nidhogg" Matthias finished
"Copy that Commander, tell the pilots to leave and have our fighters disengage, all ships are to Rendezvous at Avalon, I'm going to arm the self-destruct" Kell finished, shutting the comm off.
Now to hope that nothing else goes wrong He thought, heading for the power core.

"Sir we have unknown contacts on sensors" the voice said through the comlink
Kell's heart sank as he watched the events unfold be his eyes. Right before him, a nomad battleship and accompanying escorts materialized. He frantically reached for his comlink
"This is Colonel Tainer to all transports, go now. A nomad battleship has entered the area" He said, his voice shaking.
While waiting for a reply, lights started flashing in the background, the nomads had opened up on the evacuation ships.
Kell raised his comlink again to hail them, but he was only met with static.
He turned to exit the Observation deck and continue to his objective.

ALL ACCESS LOCKED
If they escape out anything they have learned, we're doomed Kell thought, turning just in time to see a blaster bolt fly past his face and score the wall behind him.
Kell returned fire, holding his comlink up to his mouth "Rebecca, take the Nidhogg and target the station's core" he said.
The reply came shortly, "Are you insane Kell? First, you're still on the station, second, we don't have that kind of firepower onboard" Rebecca replied starkly.
"It's the only way Rebecca, we can't allow the Hunters to escape with any knowledge they may have gleened before Rhea wiped herself" Kell began. "And the Nidhogg is equipped with an experimental mortar, it will short out, but it should have enough firepower to break through the station's armor and destroy the core" he finished.
"And that's an order" he added solemnly. "Very well Colonel" Rebecca replied, her voice laced with emotion
Another volley of fire laced the air above Kell's head. To heck with it He thought as he lobbed a plasma grenade over head, killing two of his attackers and disorienting the rest. Taking advantage of this, he made for a small access hatch that linked to the hangar.

Kell peeked through the blast doors towards where his Karasu was waiting, spotting a detachment of BHG Core Marines guarding the ship and another one next to it, a heavily modified Bastet strike fighter.
Well, things just got a bit more difficult He thought, silently regarding the marines.
"ETA to attack run, two minutes" he heard the voice of his wife saying in his ear.
Great, even less time he thought, reaching for his remaining two plasma grenades, and reloading his sidearm.
Here goes nothing he muttered, lobbing the two grenades towards the marines.
The marines were caught unawares, four of their number falling to plasma burns and the rest ducking for cover, away from the exposed position of the ships.
Breaking cover, Kell sprinted for the Karasu, taking a shot in his left arm as he did so.
Wincing in pain, Kell slid into cover behind the Karasu, quickly looking over the ship and noticing damage to the engines caused by his grenades.
There goes plan B he thought, slowly moving towards the Bastet.
Reaching the Bastet, he looked over it briefly, seeing it in relatively pristine condition.
Good he thought again, turning on his comm "Rebecca, I found a way out, I'll launch shortly, but I'll need a pickup" he spoke into his comlink.
Without waiting for a response, he emptied his remaining mag into the marines, neutralizing one more and dived into the Bastet's now open cockpit.
Warming up the ship, he launched, hearing in his ear a voice saying "ETA 5 seconds..."
"This is gonna be a close one" he muttered under his breath, maneuvering the fighter out of the bay

Explosive decompression threw the Bastet clear of the now stricken station.
Regaining control of the fighter, Kell looked back at the station, seeing several explosions blossom across the station Rebecca where are you he thought, consternation showing on his face.
A voice crackled over the comm "Kell, where are you, we haven't much time"
A feeling of elation rippled over Kell as he reached for the on button "Transmitting coordinates now, we haven't much time" he replied, his joy giving way to anxiety as he saw a nomad cruiser moving towards his location.
This is going to be close "Rebecca, one more thing, engage the jump drive the moment I'm aboard, the station's reactor will be going critical any moment, and we've got company.." he spoke into his comlink, silently regarding the oncoming cruiser.
"Roger that Kell" Rebecca replied
Seeing the Nidhogg come into view, Kell engaged his thrusters, readying the docking seals.
Seconds later, the Bastet had successfully docked with the Hathor, and Kell stormed aboard the ship.
Reaching the bridge he opened his mouth "Status report" he said bluntly.
Seeing her husband, Rebecca moved towards him, but was silenced with a glare from Kell.
Arthur Donnelly, the ship's engineer answered Kell's question.
"Thirty seconds sir, calculating jump coordinates" The engineer replied
"Not good enough Arthur, we don't have 30 seconds" Kell said, pointing out the view screen at the oncoming cruiser.
"But sir, if we don't, we may wind up in the middle of a star" Donnelly protested.
"Do it" Kell replied firmly, silencing the Engineer's protests.
Moments later, the Nidhogg vanished in a flash of light, barely avoiding destruction as a blast wave from the station obliterated everything foolish enough to remain in the area.
