yes it is.

2 thngs:

- dont become a standard '2 mil or die' pirate. they re bland and boring. try something with a bit of originality.

- make sure you mount a cd. you look rather silly if you threaten to blow up a trader who then simply cruises off leaving you behind looking retarded.

k, you want to go robbing people, first get the perfect tools, pirating is all about showing how big is your gun, so you need GB with Razor or Bomber with SNAC, I wont suggest fighter except you are skilled pilot.
Second, use Pirate ID/FL IFF, civilian ship, civilian/generic guns, so your ZoI wont be limited as certain pirate faction.
Third, always run when you saw any lawful or merc, just in case they call cavalery, gank you, whack you and have some beer afterwards while you Q_Q about being ganked

Once you have and ID and IFF you are basically in the Rogues and able to pirate. Just make sure you know the politics of the area...IE not shooting cardamine smugglers, not making nice to the Xenos, and running like crazy from the BHG

EDIT:
To transfer money, go onto the character with money and type /givecash OTHERCHARACTERNAMEHERE MONEYHERE

IE:
/givecash Kijuuki.Jougen 1000000

also make sure you know the server rules before starting pirating

A Freelancer pirate can use the Freelancer IFF/Rep (Obtainable from Coronado or Koeln) or any unlawful IFF. Just keep in mind how you are limiting yourself with it really... Freelance pirate with a Corsair IFF is not going to be flying a Hacker gunship because of the politics of it all.

Now I would like to see some more action.

Where is the "action" in attacking traders and miners?

If you want action, become a bounty hunter, vigilante or military... lots of PvP versus opponents that actually have a fighting chance. Unless you dont want them to have a chance ^^

get a freighter. i can recommend the dromedary. good cargo, decent firepower, thrust and cruise speed buff.

sit on a lane, wait until a tradeship approaches, cd it, ask for some cargo, take cargo, let ship go, go sell cargo.
