Battleships- how about another change, so they be battleships

Battleships- how about another change, so they be battleships

Since I was reading some balance issues and the general constant whine that relates about

-battleships being uber
-battleships being driven by complete nutbags
-bombers being uber
-snubs pwning battleships
-cruisers pwning battleships
-whatnot shooting eaech other that includes battleships and preferably UP Osiris

why not make them being ships of the line that care little about the wonderful snubcraft.

Exactly, godlike in style but...useless vs smallcraft.
Something along the lines of x10 - x20 armor
Heavy, and I mean HEAVY guns, mostly energy based and torpedoes.
Point blank defense cannons with limited range
Far bigger shield with greater regeneration.
Speed cut down to third or half
ability to strafe - none.

Moer of a heavy ships that exchange salvos between each other in the fleet battles, instead of current head on charges and confusion. It wouldnt be a all-pwn ship simply because anything outruns it and no long range guns present.
Hell, expensive ammo and such joyful things. I must say, the picture of 10 battleships firing broadsides of heavy guns in Texas and all the flak firing, thats something.:P

I like that battleships can dodge.

If I wanna sit still and soak up fire I'll fly a planet, thank you very much.
Now skill comes into play. if you re barely mobile, it just becomes a battle of stats.

Sure, that makes a lot of sense but unfortunately the current system where everyone and his mom can buy one won't work with your stats. Buff the battleships but make them cost like 1.9 billion, add ammo to bs guns and make a round cost 50k or more and, most importantly, restrict their use to official factions or at least let the official factions grant indies the permission to use fly them.

I like the way its right now, some things might need further adjustment, but its not that bad. Making BS's what you propose would result in a spam of heavy BS's, because they would win every fight.

Well if Battleships where buffed like that, anything above snubs would be useless [besides another battleship, of course].

Nope, there stilll can be made difference for the ships even on much reduced mobility. You can add the spread on guns for example. Hit then:)

The point. And if guy wants to use expensive battleship, let him. If as suggested ammo and everything would be expensive, one would think thrice prior to engaging dozen bombers without guns to hit them.

Well, it'd definitely feel way better if battleships were unable to strafe and were balanced with that in mind.

What you would suggest would render snubs irrelevant to battleships and battleships irrelevant to snubs. While realism would dictate this be a good step, game mechanic wise, it would become yet another barrier keeping players from interacting with one another - whether or not this is a good or bad thing is not really something I'm neither qualified nor interested in answering.

The point. And if guy wants to use expensive battleship, let him. If as suggested ammo and everything would be expensive, one would think thrice prior to engaging dozen bombers without guns to hit them.
My point was that GBs, Cruisers and basically anything big enough to be hit by such a battleship would be easily killed by the improved [but costly] heavy firepower of the battleships. Unless you actually planned on buffing the rest of the capitals accordingly, it would just introduce another balance problem and/or make many of the ships in the mod worthless.
