' Wrote:Fyi most insurance companies irl work at extremely low profit margins. You won't be better off without it, trust me.
Still there is profit, otherwise company goes down, out of the market, or rises the price. It has to cover it's expenses.
Quote:Material resources: rheinland's bled dry, no? Enjoy the unsustainable fuel expenses of militarizing 7 and 11.
Liberty is even more dry then Rheinland, according to vanilla. Gallia as well.
By this logic, in next 100-200 years Sirius will run out of resources. Right?
Wrong. Do you have any idea on the amount of resources that can be extracted from, for example, Munich? Omega 7, 11? Koeln?
Also, all these materials used in building "this and that", unless it's a fuel or food or something like that, do not disappear into nothingness, do they?
Just look at the amount of stuff we produce here, on Earth, for how long we're doing it and for how long we'll be able to continue to do it.
Why all of this comes out now? Because we're trying to roleplay economic consequences in an economic system that can hardly exist, while still trying to use human logic for that.
So it's all up to storywriters.
The economic system isn't so bad - besides the tiny amount of companies - it's just not at all dynamic, it's very much frozen in time, with the houses running out of minerals and starting to push out into the borderworlds.
I mentioned 7 and 11 - yeah resources are there, but Rheinland isn't. What's it got in 11, about 300 people? Very expensive to suddenly move in there if you cut off both your source of finance and your source of fuel at once.
Insurance companies - they cover their expenses sure. Car insurance, for one, don't do any more. They pay their wages etc, and nothing's left.
Storywriters can quite easily create out of thin air, yeah, which is why I was just talking vanilla.
This wouldn't harm ALG in the slightest. All you would do is have waste pile up on your manufacturing plants. Most of our waste comes from Bretland and Kusari anyways.
What people seem to forget is that the politicians of rheinland have been bribed for a few centuries now, there are planets other than stuttgart that can support food growth. Nuremberg can grow food, the politicians however have forbidden this because of the slight toxiditiy of the soil. Not harmfull for humans, but with a bit of bribing a politician will say what ever synthfoods wants.
Stuttgart on the otherhand has been altered from a green planet into a planet stretching with grey fields of the Synth paste plants. Synth has been piping terraforming gasses into the atmosphere killing off most of the crops of the other farmers. Only 10% of growing areas are in free hands, the rest is synth owned). You can't grow anything else on a large scale that will feed your population.
Basically if synthfoods decides to stop shipping food and stop growing as well rheinland will have no food production of any real scale to feed millions. Synthfoods would rather torch their production facilities then let someone else take them. Ofcourse LWB has biodomes but they can only support their own population and the hessians. Anything rheinland wants to buy to enhance the food growth comes a Libertonian or a bretonian company(Flora Gro from planetform and Synthfoods), sure, ALG has fertilizers but it ends there really.
Face the facts, even with the altered lore of Nuremberg the food market is for 90% in Synthfoods hands and they are a Libertonian company. They've got Rheinland in a stranglehold.
What do you think happens to the government when the population on Berlin starts to starve even more(they already are). You think the population is going to just sit around and die, they will revolt all right.
Ofcourse you can start shipping in food from cambridge but who is going to pay for that? The prices will rise to absurd highs because of the added demand.
The Rheinland companies are organised around mining(Kruger+DHC), construction of machinery(Kruger+DHC), construction of arms(DHC) and construction of ship(DHC+REPUBLICAN) as well as recycling(ALG). Food comes from Synth Foods because they bribed the Governement and killed off the competition. Pharmaceuticals come from Cryer because no one else offers it on their scale. Lane maintenance is a Libertonian monopoly. Insurance of all the rheinland activities(excluding Dresden) was done by interspace, with the Hessians, LWB and Unioners at large this was needed badly, they'd rather pay for insurance then loose full shipments at a much larger cost.
Face the facts Knjaz, this conflict is Rubbish and should be solved diplomatically quickly or the population of Rheinland would suffer. A closed economy would not function for Rheinland, all the necessities of life, food, pharmaceuticals and Fuel come primarily from outside sources or are under the supervision of others that you cant just cross out without suffering the effects.
However, if you purely look at long term effects this might be a chance for stabilize, the current governement gets kicked out by a large uprising of angry citizens and pissed off military that stands by their side. Ofcourse the economy would need to be restructured as the industrial markets collapse and the demand for human commodities increases. Most stuff will have to be rationed for the time being and just about any faction with goals to over throw the government could swoop in causing horrid effects on the diplomacy. A Neo-communist state comes to mind right now, something the SCRA would love..

In vanilla, there is all that mention of people liking to work for Synth over Rheinland groups because they actually get paid. That's especially true with the BHG.
Synth has also purchased almost 90% of the planet and has been engaged in a massive environmental modification program for at least 50 years, possibly more, but I'd have to check that part. It would take quite a while to fix the environment enough to support the Rheinland population, not to mention Rheinland essentially having to take the cost of the 80 Years War again.
It's really hard to figure the discussion, however, as Rheinland had crippling unemployment and inflation in vanilla and seems to be ok by Disco.
Also, all that stuff that just got posted by Slavik.
However, Rheinland could still theoretically get out of it by selling themselves to Kusari instead of Liberty now. Until the next conflict, as they'd just be digging themselves deeper and deeper.
The corporations need their markets and their sources.
The houses need the corporations.
Don't ever think that anyone pulling out of a house is not a major thing, with major consequences for both the corporation and house.
Those who yell "Oh but they've got this and that".
They don't use them right now. If they did they wouldn't have these issues.
There is a reason they don't use them.
Then there's the failsafe consideration - speculation and the economy.
If Rheinland is seen to be nationalising places etc, people will not invest.
People are easily scared. Look at modern day companies and see how even the failure of a new product can destroy the stock price for a large company.
Imagine if Sony decided to stop selling in the UK. The real damage wouldn't be the dent to their sales, it would be to their stock prices.
Stop waving e-peens and start using your brains. Corporations on Earth are heavily dependent on each other, imagine that but on a far vaster scale.
You are all forgeting that even if Synth foods are the biggest food company, there is a company who slowly growing as a big competitor to it(atleast in Kusari) Samura, with their food production on 3 planets. And with current discovery on kurile, production of food is really starting to kick in... and they are slowly regaining it's positions within Kusari as main food source company. At this situation, you can easily count samura in... they won't miss chance to step into "Synth" land of food market.
