Yeah sure, take caps from zoners, i haven't heard that one before. Let them defend themselves from Saircaps or Valors with their guerrilla style Kaichous donated by their good allies the GMG. Oh wait! Those are nerfed heavily!

Meh... lets keep this topic on tracks. OP: Your capital ships are not for lolwuting. IF there is a faction who should not lolwut with caps, that is every zoner faction. Diplomacy first. Then well yeah, there are hollow apes who wont get a no unless spoken from the cabin of an Aquilon. If you have been behaving, there's nothing you should fear, and you should even appeal that sanction you say you got.

The server can be a bit confusing, there are multiple kinds of "rules" and they can interact with each other in different ways. This is the way I got it sorted for me:

Software -- This controls things like where you can dock.

Rules -- Determined by the Server Rules, and also by the ID you are using on a ship. This controls things like what ship you can fly (ID restriction), and also can include things like "dont dock on the enemy base, even if the software lets you." One of the rules is 1.2, which allows the admins to make judgement calls in order to preserve "server gameplay."

Role-Play -- This is an RP server, so what you do is supposed to reflect the way a character would act. Generally RP is reflected in things like rumor cards and info cards, but is also restricted by the rules and software (dont dock on enemy station). Generally the admins dont get involved with RP layer stuff, unless you happen to break a rule in the course of doing something else. You cannot have a Liberty Navy ID and decide you want to "go bad" and start pirating, for example, since its against the RP, plus its against the ID (no piracy), and also against server rule 1.2, so they would come down hard on something like that.

Part of the RP is that each house is the governing authority over its own space. As part of that, each of the house governments have House Laws that say what is legal and illegal in their own space. This defines contraband, import/export restrictions, fines, etc. If you choose to play in a house, you are participating in the RP governance for that house, and so choose to follow or break the "laws" of that house.

You mentioned a battleship in Omega-3. No house allows foreign powers to bring capital ships into their house space, and since Omega-3 is under the authority of Bretonia, they would be in the right to tell you to get out. I dont hink this is something an admin would have gotten involved with, since its at the RP layer not a rules violation, but it seems we're missing some details.

I saw a mention of ship names. Note that there is a rule against lulzy ship names, see rule 3.5. This is to preserve the immersive nature of the RP environment.

It's not so complicated once you get your mind around it, but it can be hard to grasp at first. Just ask here if you have any questions, people will advise and lawyer with you about stuff all day.

When server activity gets over a certain level, it starts assigning kill credit to the wrong people. Like, sometimes it will say you were killed by an NPC, when there's not an NPC anywhere around. In big battles, the server just pulls a name out of the hat and says "you were killed by Frank" but Frank is in a system on the other side of the map. Anyway it is very unlikely that you were actually killed by an admin, most likely is you were just playing during busy time and the server had a brainfart. If you were killed y a real admin you'd probably know it, they like to make a big scene out of it.

Quote:i saw 2 pals on ts and ask what they were playing the sayed freelnacer so i asked if they wanted a escort
Not sure if you had Zoner ID with that ship, but it cannot escort. The ID basically lists your engagement privilieges, and escorting allows you to engage hostiles on behalf of your client, so it is an engagement privilege. Dunno if you had this ID or not, but you mentioned the zoner ship so just pointing that out

Quote:we went into braunschweig and meet up with a big and mad battle ship so we jumped back then we went into halle
Braunschweig is the private system for the Rheinland Military Guard, and Halle is the private system for the Rheinland Police Guard. The software and the rules both allow you to go anywhere you want, but in RP the people who own those factions can shoot you if you go in there. It's not a big deal, unless you make a habit out of it. Now you know about that too.

Sounds like a good day of newbie fun to me

Some may see this as a hate-thread, but please bear with me that I'm typing in a well-meaning tone. If anyone (especially Admtahoe) ever feel offended, please tell me so I may rephrase it to be better understood.

' Wrote:When people play a game, there is no reason why they have to play by everyone elses rules just because certain people want to play a certain way and they want to force everyone else play to their style.

By what grounds do you say there is absolutely no reason? That seems to be a very one-sided argument. You seem to be discarding the other fact that the community may have had a lot of established lore to justify why a certain faction ought to act like that way (as for your example, Zoners ought not to be ACTIVELY hunting NPC's because they are usually peaceful by nature, unless Roleplay reasons are justified). You cannot just---

' Wrote:That is why its a shooter/war game.

... Ahhhhhh. NOW I see the gist of it. So with this statement alone, you are evidently discarding the fact that this server is a Roleplay server, in favor of the fun of shooting other people and objects.

Sure, at the heart of the game it IS a shooter/war game. But this is an RP-server, where you're MEANT to roleplay, alongside the ability to shoot and have war and stuff. Let's see the definition of a role-playing game by wikipedia:

A role-playing game is a game in which the participants assume the roles of characters and collaboratively create stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterisation, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, they may improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games.

What this paragraph means that, as a roleplayer, you are hereby admitting that you should follow the rules and guidelines, written and unwritten. You should know that creativity ironically springs most not from being able to do anything you want, but from being restricted. I know many people here who feel very restricted, but still enjoy the game.

Also, you need to use some common sense here: InRP, capital ships are very powerful ships that their mere presence will change the course of the battle. Wouldn't you feel threatened if a Zoner capship suddenly encroached upon your territory? You could make a bad name for the group your ship represents, or even worse, cause an all-out war. (in practice though, capships are easy to kill by experienced players). Point is, you have to think a bit realistically, try to analyze what type of ripple-effect your actions would cause. A bunch of fighters gives less attention than a single, powerful capital ship, and may cause diplomatic issues on both sides involved.

In real-life, you CAN shoot that guy in the street... but does that mean you are without consequences for doing it? Are you willing to accept you might go to jail when caught, or at worst somebody will take vengeance and try to kill YOU as well? Same as in roleplay.

' Wrote:I once played another role playing game for 5 years, I had written hundreds of stories and thousands of pages of role play.

Some of us wanted to have wars and others wanted to sit in the town bar and just chat and raise their crops and not ever be attacked. It was nothing but a bunch of people trying to enforce their game play and style upon others.

I feel you. There will always be those bad-apples that think they can rules-lawyer people into making you do what they want. There are game-masters that are so strict and uncreative with their worlds, and that just kills the fun of creativity. If you ever feel that you're being rules-lawyered, never hesitate to share your concerns to the community. In fact, maybe you might be able to add something we might've missed!

Anyway, welcome to the Discovery community. Have fun, know the consequences before acting on it, and be considerate of others... even if they might be a bunch of bad-eggs at first.

Please use correct punctuation and grammar, that wall of text was a bit horrible to read.

Admin// is not a real Admin name. Impostor Admins get banned quickly.

Edit: Might have misread that... were you tacking on the "//" marks to the end of that text, or that was the name of the ship he got killed by?

There was a sig here, once.

The format for admin ships is [Admin]player.name
For instance, we have [Admin]Zelot for Zelot's in-game admin ship.
They also have special Admin ID's and Admin guns and Admin shields, and they can do funky things.

well it's ok

I know how to roleplay i've done it for years.

But you all have fun with your game.

It amazes me that in the world of ROLE PLAY we can't be a zoner and have our own thing.

Did anyone think that perhaps a group of zoners where unhappy with their current gov't and decided to break off?

But I guess that doesn't fit the collective.

It's cool.

Im cancelling my accounts right now.

Good luck

I beg to differ sir... Quoted from the Zoner ID:

Can attack lawful and unlawful targets in self-defense, to protect another trader, or in defense of Zoner bases.

By this... I would infer that as a Zoner I CAN escort traders and defend them vs anyone.

That is assisting someone who is already being attacked. Escorting is engaging on behalf of.

Example, when a pirate says "gief 2 mill or die", an escort can simply step in and fight to give the target room to escape. A zoner would have to wait for the pirate to actually attack, and could then help defend the target, but could not engage the pirate pre-emptively.
