I'm not saying that I might or might not have used this site in the past.

But first getting hit by a massive DDOS attack, and then having the Ukranian government come in and seize the servers really has to crimp their day...

it's ok. taking torrent sites down is like playing whack-a-mole & never slows people down enough to make a difference anyway. Let 'em waste their time & resources:lol:

like in discovery, some people just have to win at all costs.

From an unbiased perspective it's technically not a harmless site.

From my point of view this is incredibly annoying because it happened the same day that I finally managed to get myself a Demonoid account.

I'm curious & would like to hear you expand on this.
From my point of view, the 'harm' comes from job losses & lower wages for the low-end grunts in the industries. Now, I can sympathize with indie labels & production companies & I'll go out of my way to financially support what I like, but beyond that, the RIAA, MPAA, WB, FOX, NBC Universal, Disney, et al whine out of nothing but plain greed & deserve to be taken back apart.

I'm old enough to remember as a kid the uproar that the movie studios & MPAA stirred up about VCR's

Claims of "Home Video will utterly destroy the film industry beyond repair" was heard on the news alot & to a kid like me, that was a hell of alot scarier than possibly getting nuked by the commies.

There's really nothing all that different between what they said then & what they say now. the only difference is the tech.

IMO, none of the biggies deserve any sympathy whatsoever. They're just slower now adapting to the times then they were back then...but eventually, they will. They will kick & scream but so what? let 'em hemorrhage till they change their business models again.

Yes that's pretty much my point of view as well; I don't have sympathy for the big companies either but they aren't the only people affected by online piracy. So while I use such sites myself I still understand that they can and do cause harm in some situations.

Oh well. That's not enough of an expansion to satisfy my curiosity, but I'll take what I get;)

Bad things will always happen to good people. That's life. ::shrug::

It's the long run where the consumers have complete control, so it ain't all bad

On a slightly lighter note, the Demonoid admin has said that he does possess backups of the site. Demonoid was taken down by authorities in the past for "longer periods" (few weeks) and popped up in another country soon after. This is probably going to be one of those cases: it will take a few weeks, but then the Demonoid website will appear hosted in a different east european or asian country, and roll out the beta version also.

Good effort by the Ukrainian authorities, but as said above it won't change much.

Instead, I'd worry more about the seeming convenience of a DDoS followed by an actual hacking attack followed by a government take down... it wouldn't be that surprising if what we were seeing here is the start of true cyber-warfare, considering the powerlessness that big companies have over torrent sites...
