i cuerently have 2 chars, 1Ageira:Etna, and on independent freelancer trader with an dl borderworlds stransport.
Both go almopst eveywhere and take almost anytig. anyone got some good outes for those newb who like to get into danerous planes ^-^

I say you should make the barge fullfil its true purpose, have it so that whenever you mine and "send your cargo" to a barge it automatically recieves twice as much cargo as the person mining normally would...
Then they can all just be parked in mining fields and used by people to mine....

In my opinion, #3 could be an option, if you think it, the Barge is sort of big to die as fast as it sometimes does, a little retouch to its gun allocations and increasing the armor would make it a bit more easy to defend (with escorts, obviously).

Reducing it's cargo space might also be an option. Even reducing it a 50% if the armor is increased enough would still be good.

For some reason, I still feel like Barges could still work like trader FlagShips in some cases, more inRP terms than benefit terms. Acting as a node of storage, smaller than a base, but mobile.

Yes. This is what I most enjoy, working as a miner, generally with a team, to fill a barge with ore. Often times in systems where multiple ores can be mined, to give some variety. When it's full, it flies off to a nearby player base, usually one system jump away, to unload, and transports can haul whatever ore they like from that base to the destinations.

Although, doubling the mining rate is a bit unnecessary; that would yet again turn it into ridiculous powertrading. I just think the barge shouldn't be used for jumptrading; it's more fun, and makes more RP sense, to use it as a mining center.

I would just like to point out that barge jumptrading is not broken. You can make more money over time jumping trains. This is especially true with the jump drive accuracy nerf.

Yup. Before the jump accuracy nerf I have to admint, barge-jumping was the way to go. Now if you're 30-100k out from your target, the travel time + dock time (assuming there aren't any NPCS, in which case if there are you're not docking, repeated F1s to get them to despawn etc..) 5ks are faster. We actually stopped moving our barge itself once this jump nerf hit, I just get my friends to ferry with their 5ks. 4 runs with 2 5ks is faster than 1 run with the barge. Way faster.

..This is also assuming we're trying to dock the barge at a open station, not a planet, not something in an asteroid/cloud field, those places are just off-limits and require ferrying to start with.

So honestly, the jump nerf has already made it so the barge is just a floating space station. No way in heck we're going to wait 2 hours for it to move 100k and dock with a station when we can spend 30 minutes ferrying. If you really want to make sure it doesn't move much cut the cruise engines all-together, 25m/s forward or back, thats it. But increase the cargo to make it more inline with a base. A base is 1/25th the size of a barge, but can hold 12 times more???

/rant on: Plus, I have to say this becuase its sooo obvious and really detracting from this topic. You trollers that are just pissed off you don't have a barge and therefore call for it to be removed/nerfed into non-use, just stop posting, please. You're contributing nothing but blind biased hate. And even if you do have 'valid' points, they're wrong. Like people saying more guns would help, even if it had 10000 guns it would still be impossible to hit anything because the size of the ship throws off the targeting reticle so bad, if you've actually flown a barge you'd know this. People think they're way better than they are because they look so good on paper. Fly one first. /rant off


So in conclusion, IMO as a barge pilot, keep the jump accuracy nerf (grr) increase the cargo or armor (or both) and get rid of the cruise engines all-together, that should make it more of a 'mobile space station' although i do like the idea of having to get someone to tow it to move it.....

I don't have a Barge, but I'll suggest a few things.

1.) Give the equivalent of long range type 3 transport guns (3k range). Might be useful despite the size of the ship. At least they'd be a good sight better than the current turrets.

2.) Increase purchase price to 900,000,000.

3.) Make it publicly purchaseble.

Otherwise I suggest leaving the rest of the Barge's properties as is.

Exactly that's why barges need huge changes, it have nothing to do with ownership of the ship or similar.

I disagree. Having 3-5 5ks before the nerf was miles better than a jumper a barge and a shuttle, let alone a barge and a jumper. Barges significantly increase jump time due to the time it takes to move to a place safe from NPC patrol bumping, and even if you have a transport you have to fill the barge to jump it. And even after all of this it's likely an NPC will bump it, you will have to realign mid-jump. Meanwhile, you could have jumped a few 5ks there and back.

Now with the nerf, barge jumping is a ridiculous idea. The only real exception to this is if you really need supplies at-cost and have a transport to shuttle the supplies to the barge at the destination.
