Another question is are you fan to the bretonia textures? I am sure the answer is no, but the current ones looks far more "heavy" and suitable on the gunship instead if Jinx used "templar skin". I assure you of that.

My opinion is impartial and made of my modelling experience.
If Jinx managed to fit monotexture to it, then he had done it very well.
Though not perfect.

First thought is that the texture is absolutely hideous and needs re-doing. More red, instead of just tiled, monotonous grey patches. Look to the current GB for inspiration - this one just looks sloppy. The shape is probably taking 'make it look like a prawn' too far, as well. It's not too bad though.

Next up, the underhanging gun emplacement could probably use being ever so slightly thicker. As it stands, it looks way too frail, and from a gameplay perspective, its going to unfairly mess with enemy bombers. Bulking it out will make it look less likely to snap.

No comment on the balance. Never much had a head for combat figures.

@Swallow: the skinning is FAR from perfect - but honestly ... its the best i can do without loosing my mind. - will it look terrible ingame? - not at all... but do all the texture parts fit in neatly with each other? - no, not really either.

when you get close to it - its rather a mosaic patchwork - but if you re at a health distance ( 20+ meters ) you won t notice it ( provided its standing still ) - so even in turretview spinning around itself, you won t notice too many annoying inconsistencies.

bretonia lacks good high res vanilla UV textures - but the ones we have CAN be put to a good use in professional programs of course, - cause i can t just install any licensed program on my computer ( unless i buy it [ and i cannot use any student license there either ] ) - relying on freeware programs does not provide you with the tools to do the most sophisticated skinning.

if someone wishes to try though - i m sure the mesh can be passed over for someone else to do the skinning.


edit: can t seem to upload textures in that model viewer - the model always appears pitchblack. no clue why.

like someone already stated a light gunboat isnt needed for Bretonia, also its kinda weird to see a bigger ship (or what seems to be a bigger ship) be worse in stats, would it really be a light gunboat if the hit boxes are bigger then what the heavy gunboat bretonia currently has? (the heaviest gunboat in the game stat wise)

The proposed model is much smaller than the existing GB. The bottom picture isn't the model and its hitbox, rather an outline comparison of the old GB and this one. This would be gunship sized. A comparison to the Bottlenose would be useful.

It looks almost identical to the Destroyer (only smaller) and IMO that's not a good thing. People could confuse both ships at first glance.

And the hardpoints being all in the ship's... arc thingy, it would make it very vulnerable from behind and above, don't you think?

And I think the modelers efforts should go to make some sort of other ship for Bretonia. Like a new Battleship. That would be awesome.

I would prefer light GB that looked like it came up from the snub line, instead of something that came down from the capital line. This looks like a BS with a destroyer jaw taped onto it, rather than a light gunboat. I would rather see something like this as the starting point for a light gunboat. That is not a suggestion, just an example of a ship that evolved up from fighter line instead of coming down from the capital line.

Also to those who say bret does not need a light gunboat, that is only because the heavies are OP imbalanced, and if/when they are balanced then Bret will definitely need a light gunboat.

Concept arts from the vanila FL reveal a lot of possible new bretonian ships, the thing is most of them ilustrated with different than the current bretonia ship parts. Thats why, following the bretonia ship line and its standart parts for small ships: bridge/body/engine - we would always receive something similar to that. Its just fact that most bretonian ships are "platforms" instead of our understanding for "space ships" so we see nothing wrong to follow that rule. Its the original rule.

As for that ship you just gave a link, thats from those model that have nothing in common with nearly anything closer to the bretonia ships, neither from their snubs. If you would like to see possible bretonia gunship MK2- you can see the evolution of the FOL conceopts which are 7 images (from the bonus disk) - the end one is another possibility - gunship following the snub line.

Like you see from the concept, its representation of the original gunship for bretonia before the current one was created. Its interesting model that gives the begining of the "platform" ships of bretonia. That why it reminds you of the destroyer. It must remind you of the destroyer.

Jinx and I were discussing this for a long time. The thing is that ship should be maneuverable with strange weapon arcs making it more effective as pursuer instead of "right mouse button +TZx10 +less skill" kind of fighter tool. The ship must be in short fighting nonstop facing its enemy thats why possible setup is: 6 forward/4 backward/4sides/2above/5below but still under review. And yes it must not be "perfect" from all sides.

That will be next but wont happen still 4.89:)Aeternus agreed that bretonia cant receive carrier because they wont launch an invasion but they may get use of a heavy battleship considering the bretonia primary enemies during the years: Kusari Battleship (heavy) and the Valor (heavy). Its logical step to follow the heavy line even further but due to lore reason - such a step is impossible for now.


I and jinx would be happy if the votes were primary for the model as it looks like considering the concept. I was expecting the people to say "no" cuz bretonia "dont need light gb" but this is not about what we need cuz what we need is here and is submitted. The poll is only for the model, how it looks like, give oppinions, give feedback.
