Quote:I ask Roberts if he can land on top of the carrier and get out. He can, and does. He floats about awkwardly (zero-G movement isn’t animated yet), then returns to the cockpit and does a fly-by of the carrier’s flight deck. Ideally, he tells me, a friend standing inside the carrier will wave to you as you fly by. [...]
“This is my vision,” he says after the demonstration. “I’ve spent the past year [putting this together] with my money and a few others’, but we can’t take it all the way. It’s too expensive and I’m not doing the traditional EA publisher deal. I don’t want to make a console game. This is what I want to do.”
overreach combined with lack of funding, dunno how enthusiastic i can get. sounds like his white whale
There's a clear "discovery" Mentality with some of you people regarding this.
This isn't Discovery, something we inevitably know will fail because the community will rip it apart. (opinion)
This is a mans life long dream being achieved, because of the modernization of Technology. He also stated that he had private investors already, he's just filling the gap with public support, which I think he'll manage judging from his confidence today at the GDC.
Personally I'll be donating a small fortune to him because why not, but for the same price you'd pay for a game with no story and game play equivalent to modern day paint on the wall metaphors(any call of duty game for example), you can 'pre-order' the game and actually be a participant rather than a critic, Risk Free.

I'll probably pitch in for the 'Lancer pledge if I can get the spare cash together. I'm partially of the same mind as latos, given that this is an excellent opportunity to give the big publishers two fingers and give an independent studio a shot at going big. That's a pretty essential step to take if we want the games industry to break out of its current rut and do something innovative and interesting. Who knows, this could even resurrect the spacesim genre? Either way, this is just pre-ordering, but also getting access to a bunch of other goodies for loyalty. Doubly so if you have a golden ticket.
If the current donation surge keeps up, they'll easily meet and surpass their $2m target. I highly doubt the money will keep flowing in, however. Today's donations are the result of a month of hype and years of fans pining for a new game. Once the initial storm subsides, it'll be much harder for them to pick up the funds they need. He sounded confident at the announcement because it's his job to be confident there. Who's going to invest if you openly admit that your project is a long shot and unlikely to work?
Anyway, should be interesting to see what the economy is going to be like. Bowex mk II, anyone? I want to gang-rape some pirates in their freighter equivalents.
No words can describe how watching every bit of evidence that this is actually happening made me feel. This. This. This is making me consider a job to get a new computer that could actually run such graphics.
EDIT: Oh wait a tick, I already posted in this. I should probably sleep now.
There are some pretty epic guys here, why don't we write a "Thank you" letter and perhaps offer our help. As you know who said "Every little bit helps"
