Well folks,
It’s been a long ride.
(Ignore the ‘joined’ date on this forum account - I came here a full year and then some, prior to the creation of Tim Finnegan as a character and defining account)

I have enjoyed my time here more than any other game I’ve played. And I’ve played a lot of games. I’m old, and have been gaming longer than many of you have been drawing air. I even predate D&D!

As much as I’ve enjoyed flying in the Discoverse so carefully crafted by the astoundingly skilled and dedicated mods, I’ve also had a truly enjoyable time writing stories, comms, and advice for all to consume and enjoy (or not enjoy – whichever -).

I feel as though I have, over time, learned a hefty grasp of the canon of Disco, and have been thrilled to help new players figure out the game and its politics, reasons, and texture. It’s the reason I’ve always kept a 90 rank on Finn and hung around Penn so often, so that people would see me as someone to ask questions - and so that I could benefit the community which has given me so much enjoyment over the years, to pay-it-forward, so to speak.

And in truth, I have loved Disco with every bit of me that is a gamer.

Lately though, I have been made seriously uncomfortable here. It seems that for a while now, every time I stick my head out of the RP sections there’s a small group of people here who take it as excuse to throw verbal darts at me. Now, I don’t follow them around haranguing them, so I can’t really understand their reason, nor do I care to bend my brain to it.

This group would probably not bother me so much if it didn’t contain admins, former admins, and other people who are functionally ‘core’ members of the community.
I’ve been told recently by ‘core’ community members - and even a current admin -that I’m ‘something of a constant annoyance’ and am ‘barely tolerated’.

So, I may be old and slow, but I get the message. My work here is not appreciated, and as my presence seemingly annoys and irritates, my time to leave is upon me.

Oh, also, base maintenance sucks and puts this once-great game right on-par with WoW and all that other 'grind-all-day' trash.

So:

To Hawk and JT - there's nothing to say to you guys that you don't already know. Much Love, Keep the faith.
To the rest of the .:j:.Congress members, I’ll never be able to apologize enough for not being there when you need a snarky gnarled old Scotsman, if you do, but I will try – I am genuinely sorry - and you, above all, I will miss… Also, THANKS! You guys rock, in spite of the general attitude towards you – the most genuine and friendly, accepting and acceptable people I’ve gamed with in my 45+ years. (also steadily one of the most active factions – for years on end)

To my other RP partners and friends, some still here, many gone – more than I’ll remember to give credit to – Marburg, Huggie, Sara, Doc Holliday, Rolfy, Patrician, Jameson, Tink (who taught me how to Junker and told me to stay resolute on my SRP), Rudo, DRV, Scout, Primitive, Kaze, Tigger, and so many others, THANKS! You guys gave me some of the best gaming/RP times I’ve ever had.

EDIT: Almost forgot Kanga and Shago - shame on me! Love you guys.

To those who openly despise me, JihadJoe, DustyLens, Sina (and all your names, past and current), and your disco-wolfpack (XA, Reavers, etc.) THANKS for the inspiration!
You guys gave me a reason some days to log in - just to show you couldn’t force me off the server – but eventually I tired of the battle, and as the server population withered slowly, and so many of my true friends left, I bored of it. You win.

To those I’ve not mentioned, to those that trusted me with 'foolish' questions, you should know I truly enjoyed your company - and it was, in the end, you guys that kept me coming back. This is a great community, just don’t make enemies of the wrong people, they will haunt you until your last disco-day.

For the TL;DR crowd -
Disco, with genuine sadness and reddening eyes, thanks.
And farewell.
-Finn

I've not been around long enough to had too much interaction with you or to have come to hate anyone, but I have enjoyed reading Finnegan's RP. Especially when it almost descends into unreadable Scots, makes me proud to keep up Big Grin

Sad to see you go, but you seem like a cool enough person to enjoy yourself with whatever you do outside Disco.

Okay. Fine. You're welcome to tell me what I feel and think.

Me disagreeing with you on some stuff doesn't mean I despise you, nor that I even personally dislike you. But hey man. If you wanna carry that around with you, that's your business and yours alone.

Someone's got a real ego problem if they think that a bunch of people were going out of their way to get them.

Actually Hades...that type of thing (people holding grudges and being antagonistic) happens quite often in this community....anyways, moving on.

I'm really really sorry to see you leaving us, Finn. The interactions my characters have had with you in the past have easily been some of the best and I'm gonna miss the good ole "Governor of Inverness", for sure. Big Grin

I won't try convincing you to stay, If that's the way the place has made you feel, that's the way it is..Though I am disappointed to see that the place got under your skin that way. BUT, I can understand entirely.

Keep your head up, and stay awesome, Your departure will leave a fairly sizable void to be filled, especially I imagine, among Junker players.

It's been real fun, Finn.

See you around.

Dude, this seriously sucks. Ever since I started playing in .84, Ive noticed a brain drain of dedicated RP'ers. Frankly the quality of people joining doesnt come close to the quality of people that have left. And those of us that DO enjoy RP (besides RPing a bureaucrat or setmsg/pew) have less and less people to roleplay WITH. And so the drain continues. Not gonna lie, this might finally kill off my activity too. Damnit, no Finn and no hockey season. 2012 sucks. If you can resist continuing to be a beach bum and move north, get in touch. We'll go out drinking and make snarky comments; should be fun.

My friend, I wish this wasn't the case. However, I do understand. I'll respect your feelings here. Still, I'm hoping you won't be a stranger, I've always enjoyed our chats. By the way, I still hope we get the chance to do some yakin.
