As the second daughter and fifth child of Leandro and Emilia Petrucci, Camilla was born into a privileged household. Owning one of Malta's bigger cartels active in the production and distribution of cardamine, the Petrucci family has amassed considerable riches over many generations, growing steadily through the ever increasing, Sirius-wide demand for the orange drug. Camilla spent most of her childhood around the Petrucci residence, a grand villa located in a mild climate region in Malta's southern hemisphere. Up until adolescence, she enjoyed a good education while being looked after almost exclusively by her mother Emilia and several housemaids. However, with age it became clear that like her older sister Luciana, she too was one of the countless Maltese women whom the gene altering properties of cardamine had left infertile. Consequently, she lost much of the preference Maltese society had for those who could conceive their future generations.
Despite growing up in luxury, Camilla exhibited a love for nature from an early age, finding peace in Malta's vast cardamine fields and dreaming of worlds beyond the horizons of her home planet. Throughout her childhood, she frequently visited relatives who were put in charge of individual cardamine plantations by the head of the Petrucci family; playing and wandering in the fields, helping out with the annual harvests, enjoying life close to nature and cherishing the traditions that have been passed on throughout Maltese history.
It wasn't until the age of 19 that she left her childhood home and began travelling, visiting many of Malta's regions and cities. Arguably, it was the neglect from her hard-working father that kept her from a sense of comfort within her family, and inspired her to seek recognition beyond her own home. Determined to get by on her own but possessing few valuable skills, she worked in various low-qualification jobs to afford a living.
During the year 815, Camilla began visiting flight schools for beginners, where she learned about space travel by day and worked by night in order to finance the courses. After collecting sufficient practical experience in piloting a small fighter, she finally received her license as an intermediate level pilot in 818. Since she lacked the funds to afford a proper spaceship of her own, she spent the following year working as one of a dozen crew members on a Maltese trade vessel flying trade runs within the nearby Omicron and Tau systems, under simple conditions - The captain Giovanni Rizzo would provide her with room and board for free while she used the opportunity to collect experiences about life and work in outer space.
Along with her father's glowing words for the pilots of the Outcast guard, it might have been the desire to impress her family that eventually lead her into the rows of the 75th Mosquitos. The squadron she encountered during her work under Rizzo provided her with a Series CX 'Scimitar' fighter, a ship similar to but much more powerful than the model she had trained with. Ready to step into the life of a Maltese fighter pilot, she left the familiar space for her first assignment to Liberty, hoping that her dreams of exploration, adventure and gaining recognition would be fulfilled.
