Also, I believe most people would play on the main server, although some mods will probably rise and become popular as well.
I think you greatly underestimate the space sim community. There are dozens of people about with industry-grade skills in modelling and texturing, and that's just in the Freelancer community, let alone the space sim community at large.
I'm looking forward to be pleasantly suprised. Actually, it would be quite ironic, yet more than welcome if we end up with Total Conversion mod in Freelancer theme after a year or so.
They hit their 2m funding goal today via combined own crowdfunding and kickstarter funding, also released first ship teaser: http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/ships-plan/
At the begging I was not sure if they could make the game but now the SP would come for sure in 1 year, with a bit more funding Freelancer like MP would come in 2 years or so.

Glad to see they made it. Personally I had no doubt they'd make it. But admittedly at first I was quite skeptical of his idea to do fundraising on their own website. Poor site was flooded and crashed right at Chris announcement speech at GDC. Also worth to note that at RSI pledging site money is indeed transferred the moment you confirm your pledge, unlike Kickstarter where transfer happens only if funding campaign was successful. Another point, not sure if it has been said at this thread earlier, but most funding for Star Citizen isn't coming from the backers, remember that gathering 2-3 mil through crowdfunding was a requirement in order to obtain further ~14mil from private investors Chris apparently got. I do hope those investors will keep their promise. Because no way in hell Star Citizen is going to get done on 2mil. For example originally PC exclusive Crysis (so we have a comparable title in terms of platform availability) had a budget of 22mil.
Help me out here. It's about adding a check box feature that would prioritize placing other RP'ers in instances with you. Simple, effective and not balance-sensitive.
The button that restricts PvP might be game killer.

Aha and what makes the tons of easy blue msgs to leave the said core worlds?
I am really sick and tired by the new generation of gamers that prefers dump and easy to win games, I mean it really why the nowaday Kids does not love challenges where they can learn how to lose?
I am also disappointed from Chris Roberts- he promised that the game wont be EA like and failed because he wants more $$. Unfortunately $$ come in big quantities from the idiotic mainstream gamers that need the "I win" button in order to buy something.
