By setting aside an area for people to RP?

It's not like it would be an invasive thing; people could choose to ignore it without impacting on their gameplay at all.

Please read the full post for a more thourough explanation of my viewpoints.

It sets an ambience that in my view is unwanted. Disco got plenty of opportunity for people to RP or chat away all they want without worrying too much about getting shot - and if they do get shot, that is also roleplay. If you want to isolate yourself and completely control every possible variable, then do skype or forum RP.

It's unnecessary, doesn't help towards reasonable player distribution and moreover it creates an isolated pocket that takes away from all those people playing on the "real server" who wants to RP with strangers they encounter. Plus sets the stage for extreme carebear-ness.

If it creates an isolated pocket of people, then it is working and people are enjoying some RP. It wouldn't be a bad thing.

I'm not really seeing it. Conn is an ooRP place for pews. Having a separate system for RP doesn't make sense to me because that system itself would be ooRP. Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just me?

I was going to post this earlier, but why not use Conn? Just head away from the main battleground, turn off your death messages and start the RP. No-one's that likely to come and find you, and if they do they are not allowed to engage you.

Hmm, go one better. Halve conn into an RP zone and a PVP zone. Put some fields, bases and wrecks on the RP side for points of interest. Then the players can just pick a location and pretend it's somewhere else.

Since the you're not allowed to attack anyone without their consent anyway, this would work just as well as my original idea.

The Trader's Guild had thoughts of doing something like this. Though, we wanted it to be more of a market place where people could come and sell ships/ equipment in rp. Sadly the guild went boom before our neutral rp and market system could be made. (there was more rp too it as well, but that was the basics) peace would be enforced in the system by the guild.

Yes it is, because that pocket is cut off from everyone else who enjoys to RP in the main game world. The players that choose to isolate themselves won't add to the overall server environment, which is naturally a negative and somewhat self-centered thing.

You don't get "more" or "better" RP out of a closed oorp no-guns system, you get extremely controlled RP - and in my view RP isn't really RP without that factor of unpredictability, the ability to be open to and to respond in-character to new situations that arise completely out of your hands. RP should be open-ended, and not a preset complete narrative where you control each and every element because then you aren't really playing a role with all it entails, but rather performing a play. It's bad for RP, it's bad for the server as a whole and it further adds to a misguided idea of RP and PVP being each other's opposites.

And please don't wreck Conn - afterall you don't need to "practice" RP. Besides those who are there to non-pvp would go nuts with all the lulzy behaviour and system chat and we would see a completely new chapter in the book of QQ that might mess up the fun that is conn.

It's simply not worth it when you can just play the game and interact like everyone else does and get your RP fix to the fullest. I can't see what you can do in this closed isolated system that you can't do in the main game world.

So you're telling me that you want to widen the already colossal rift between people who are good at killing because they enjoy it, and people who suck at it because they hate it/refuse to learn? Yeah I'll pass. And yes, I worded that right the right way around. People tend to get it backwards.

I've seen it used both ways, roleplay used as an excuse to sit off the plane and whine about corruption or ganks or whatever, and likewise I've seen people who enjoy killing go out and slaughter the other half because they enjoy the reaction.

It's actually both mindblowingly funny and stupid at the same time.

Of course you always have your correct balance, which is people who couldn't give less of a damn about dying at pixelships, but those're few and far between.

Anyway the point is that doing this would create far more animosity between those two player demographics, when the correct way of fixing things is to remove exploitable gameplay loopholes and reducing the punishment for losing a fight.

You could apply all those arguments against conn.
