Sounds to me like it needs a line on there that it may operate in Bretonia and Taus only, and may only attack enemies of Bretonia. That'll force folks that want to play pirate, to use the Pirate ID. Which is rephacked hostile to the Bret lawfuls.

Personally I like the Privateer ID and would be sad to see it go. Historically privateers would sometimes go astray and attack neutral or even friendly targets for personal profit, thus becoming pirates in fact. In the long run this may not do them much good however (think of Captain Kidd). If this could be represented in game, maybe by reporting such privateers to the BAF for instance, that would be the most elegant, in-character solution I think. Since I have stopped playing a privateer myself, I have not seen any other around, so I would expect the amount of such reports to be manageable. Perhaps talking to the player after the encounter and pointing out where a privateers true long-term interest lies would help too. Or so I hope. I may be wrong of course, I'm a romantic, which is likely why I love privateering in the first place.

Thats a very bad idea, seeing as the idea of a privateer is to attack behind enemy lines, so itd need to be able to go into gallia, and attack people who arnt enemies of Bretonia, but are in there helping gallia.

However, a line prohibiting attacking lawfuls inside bretonia might be good.

The idea and roll of a Privateer is to disrupt trade to the enemy, not attack behind enemy lines. The privateer is more of a support position, not an offensive position.

At which point, he isn't a Privateer anymore, he's not working for or under the house, at that point he's a pirate, so he should use a Pirate ID, not a privateer ID.

I agree with Aeternus, to an extent. I would say allow them to even enter warring faction's house space, but to only be allowed to attack or pirate enemy military, or traders belonging to corporations belonging/headquartered to that house.

For example, a privateer could go to Kusari and pirate all the Kishiro/Samura he wants, but if a random freelancer or Zoner transport came along, they would be off-limits to the privateer.

Privateers are a law unto themselves. Always have been and should remain so. Bret privateers should be operating freely in Kusari, the Taus, Bretonia AND the Sigmas now, considering Gallia's association with Rheinland. And anyone they catch in the areas I mentioned should be fair game, unless they are flying Bretonian colours (ie a lawful Bret ID or IFF). It should be down to their role-playing to convince a privateer that they are not supplying Bretonia's enemies. And a small donation to the war effort never goes amiss..........

It seems there's a swelling of incomers to the server that have no interest in playing their roles sensibly, and prefer to exploit the wording of their IDs to do stupid things as described in the OP. Not anything new there. However, it is these players that need action taking against them, NOT the IDs they happen to be using. Otherwise you just end up with useless IDs.

This is, of course, the opinion of a Privateer. I don't want to see my RP avenues throttled, nor do I want those who play the privateer role sensibly to be adversely affected. So I obviously disagree with Aet's opinion vehemently. Unfortunately the only route that seems to get followed is to restrict those who play sensibly because of the actions of the few that don't.

God save the Queen.

Privateers should attack enemys of bretonia not their friends
and zones for that are gallia taus and kursari so no bretonia territory for them

get the id and have to leave bretonia...

historically privateers are announced by the crown to attack enemys and not friends,
but in the last month on disco the attack enemy thing is not happen. i hear only pruivateer attack friendly trader in bretonia and that is not that what i have in mind and it is that what mollys did...

Rheinland/Kusari transports are valid targets when headed to, through or out of Gallia, as is everyone other than the Council and their allies. They still could request the supplies go straight to Bretonia instead of Roussillon of course.

Valid targets in Bretonia or the south would be smugglers, those supplying the Corsairs or Mollys, then Gallic and Kusari transports.
Dart got access to the Tau Trading licence list through some RP, so they can pirate anyone headed north illegally (although it's their discretion on those supplying Harris). They also come back to Bretonia to bring their interdicted goods home, so a blanket FR5 for "well-behaved" Privateers isn't the best option.

The second group can obviously be pirated anywhere, but when you start pirating people of their cargo headed to Stokes, then take it to Stokes yourself it's not what the ID is intended for. I'm with Stoat that it should be handled inRP, and as you will have seen with Jacen's "Queen.Amidala", eventually they'll get FR5ed from Bretonia and not able to operate there.

Exactly.

Privateers in Sigma-13? Where else? It's already hard enough to play non-IMG cashmaking faction in Rheinland, no thanks. Privateers' right to pirate should be limited to the Taus, Gallia, and Kyushu maybe.

As always, Stoat and Summer talk the talk and hit the nail on the head.
Please dont mix up those who play the Privateer RP with style with those who dont.
I play my Privateer in the Tau's, Orkney and Kusari to catch those fro....Gallic....traders heading down to and in Kusari.
If i see any " lawfull " trader with Gallic goods then they too are fair game, cant have so called friendly or neutral houses trading with the stinkies now can we???
Deal with those who abuse the ID with some RP and before you know it they will be outlawed in Bretonia.
