if a ship is tagged freelancer- and is running a rogue or pirate id in real space i feel that law enforcement would activity punish them. if you ride around in a cop car or claim your are a cop when in fact you are not dos the law not punish you if caught? im not trying to get players banned for this just justly hunted.

i have seen thees people running thees tags in the new york system going threw the proper trade networks unmolested im at least calling for better performance from are in game law enforcement.

All pirates are hunted by lawfuls anyways.... This is normal.

Blame the cops not the robbers if they're not being chased Wink

It's not "long range scanners" its registering on the faster-than-light network so that you can receive radio comms. This is even in the game lore, where jump gates provide FTL relays that forward comms between the systems. Think of it like today's cell network, your phone constantly registers with the nearest cell tower, so that the network knows where to send calls.

Also ... everybody that wants to hide the list is willing to do so because they have other ways of monitoring the systems (Skype) and itnt giving up anything, just raising the bar for everybody else.

Of course an inrp punishment could be in order. But seriously, naming my pirate transport "ore.for.sale" sounds like a valid and hilarious way to attract traders. It also encourages police and military to actually patrol systems to confirm the status of these players instead just looking at the player list, to find "navy.ship1, police-offizah, and, average.trader" in the system and logging off because nothing to pew, (or so he thinks *wink* *wink*)

And as it was mentioned already, the player location and level should be removed, or the exact locations changed to regions instead.

Are you referring only to names or to the automatic IFF tags as well?
Because I can't really see how it's a problem if a pirate has a freelancer IFF.
Freelancer doesn't tell you anything about who they are. It says just that, they are freelancing. If a pirate isn't affiliated with any of the main unlawful factions, there really aren't any other IFF to be had.

Personally, I always consider a freelancer IFF'ed player to be unlawful until I see a shred of proof otherwise.

the only traders it would attract are empty ships looking to buy ore. it would attract other pirates though.

yeah it sounds like the kind of thing that gets thought up after a 2 day cocaine binge
