I was thinking last night wouldent it be cool if there was a Sub class ship, simply put a dedicated cap ship killer but hopless against fighters.

My thoughts on the specs are as follows:

1) 5 torp launchers (4 forward facing and 1 aft facing)

2) 1 deck gun (fighter turret level 5)

3) a cloke which drains either sheild or wepons power or both, and can only last about 2 mins. (when cloke engaged ship cannot fire and cannot cruise)

4) armour like tin foil

5) manouvers like a stoned slug

there is already one problem
the cloak, if you have it for one ship, people will use it for other ships
other than that i like the idea (akin to my missile ship)

ive got 2 thoughts on that:

1) if you gave the ship amazing wepons energy and make the cloak draw power form that effectivly making the cloak only effective on this class of ship. (on all other classes it lasts 1 second)

2) if the cloke can be made an intrgeral part of the ship (u cant unmount it)

about the cloak - the simple answer is "no" ( comes from other ideas about cloaks - and igiss simply said no, no matter what harsh penalties you apply to a cloak )

about muliple torp launchers - while i like the idea, it would mess up the balance, no matter how thin you make their armor. 5 torp tubes = 600.000+ damage / click. - thats not acceptable.

however - if you like the idea of such a ship. - you can fly a battlecruiser and use 4 light mortars. they are sort of like torpedos. the BC can shoot 4 at once, too.

hmm... nah.
there are already bombers that are especially made to kill capships, and easier to produce than a full fledged capital ship.
why wasting so much ressource for a huge sub capship, when you can produce a few bombers to destroy a cap ship?

I like the idea, honestly, but the Cloak just doesn't work. It's been tried, there are bugs, and there's a permanent ban on its discussion on TLR. Essentially, no, no, no, no and no. Also, that many torpedoes is bound to create problems, because you can use Torpedoes for other uses than killing Capships...not to mention, 600000 damage? The Battleship is already an extremely underpowered class; the only thing it has going for it is numbers. Don't neuter it further.

Capships are getting owned enough as it is....two or three bombers can make quick work of any battleship, as they should. Two bombers can do it if flown well. Imagine 2 or 3 of these submarines, imo, wouldn't be much fun as the caps would go down really quickly and then you'd be hopelessly dodging fighters.

Not submarine, but perhaps heavy bomber. With the armour and size of the Bounty Hunter Gunship (the old rogue GB). But the shields have to be low, freighter shields (the ones with around 25k capacity, level 6). Four torp mounts but the maneuverability of the talarca cruiser.

But, I can see many many many balance problems arising from this, and it should not be tried until we have implemented more important things, such as addressing that spin problem of capships in general and fixing the mining problem.

So a no for now from me, but a possibility for the future definatly.

EDIT: And no cloak.
