We have 4 samples of the SCMA(Specialized Cell Metabolism Augmentation) technology provided by the independent scientist, Hans Von Goeben. The Boad has approved DHC R&D and DIRF (Daumann Indsutrial Research Facilities), to begin immediate testing for future implementation.
According to his data, the SCMA provides immunity to poison gases, by altering the metabolism of lung cells. The “augmentation” procedure is done by injecting the serum, and exposing the subject to small doses of poison. It takes a week for the human body to fully adapt until full immunity is developed. For the experiment we will have 8 test subjects. 4 of them will be injected with the serum, and adapted to 4 different poisonous industrial gases; the other 4 will be the control group, and won’t be submitted to the serum procedure, and exposed to the same gases and the same levels of exposure.
Gases to use:
Carbon monoxide - Found in many industrial processes in DHC. Produces dizzyness and prolonged exposure causes the exposed to fall asleep and eventually die.
Copper gas - The superheated lasers used by DHC to blast ores from asteroids, produces small amounts of copper gas, prolonged exposure produces copper poisoning. Symptoms include vomiting, hematemesis(vomiting blood), hypotension, coma, yellow pigmentation of the skin; and in the long term it can cause failure of the kidneys and liver.
Cobalt dust - From processing cobalt ore. Symptoms include a condition similar to asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, decrease in cardiovascular strenght, nervous problems, nausea, and thyroid associated problems.
Diamond process byproducts - “Stardust” as called by Solarius miners, is a cocktail of different elements found in the cargo hulls of diamond freighters. Stardust, gets its nickname from the nearly microscopic diamonds found along the extremely light dust from the asteroids in O11; and as a result the dust cloud shines. For the experiment, these small diamonds will be removed, as their sharp edges damage the lung tissue; but the rest of the chemicals will be left in the compound.
Of course, prolonged exposure will eventually cause death. The test subjects will be selected by a colleague. Usually that would be my job, but I have to leave to Briesen, to check an employee with an unusual skin condition. At least I'm going "home".

We have the test subjects; 5 of them are Hessians. 2 Corsairs and 1 Bretonian pirate. All were tractored in from the Diamond field in Solarius. Despite the radiation, they are in good condition. None of them has been used for forced labor at Leipzig or Solarius, making them perfect for the experiment. Daumann Industrial Research Facilities has prepared a classified lab on Holstein to conduct the tests. The subject were to be brought on my experimental craft, but due to security reasons; R&D decided to prepare a X Shuttle. Finally I get a brand new ship; I was getting tired of that experimental Mjolnir which serves no purpose at all.
The 8 subjects will be shipped in stasis; in a non-declared compartment, so the police won’t find anything when they stick their noses. Non declared compartments are just big enough for the 8 subjects.
The X shuttle will arrive tomorrow at Solarius. I will think of a name in the meantime. I really want to try this SCMA tech. If it works, the slaves on Leipzig and Solarius will last longer; and, if it works really really well, we could use it for our own employees... For now the test subjects remain in induced coma; and will remain that way until they arrive at Holstein. Spatial disorientation, gray walls and artificial light makes them easier to work with.

I’m on my way to Holstein. This X shuttle is wonderful. It even comes with a science bay of its own! And it has enough cargo space to hide important commodities. The test subjects are in perfect condition. Because I trust Von Goeben’s work; I decided to submit the corsairs, the bretonian and 1 hessian to the treatment; and leave the other 4 hessians as control; which will probably die. If I could, I’d throw that other hessian in the control group as well, but we are short of “volunteers”. I departed Solarius, and took the Dresden route to New Berlin; I don't like Stuttgart, too predictable for pirates. I'm currently holding at The Ring, waiting to pick up a few assistants from New Berlin, and that will take 10 more hours for all to arrive...
Because my vessel is a special use one, I was allowed to pick a non-standard name; I picked DHC-Freiheit. Did I mention I love this thing? I could do my entire research right here, or most of it at least; away from unwanted people taking a look at my work.
I feel bad for the Bretonian pirate being a test subject; he is kind of hot. But I must stay focused on my job. On the other hand, he is on a coma and this is a long trip...

Delays, delays, and more delays... 3 days trapped in The Ring doing paperwork; but I finally arrived at Holstein.
Now this is a bit more different than I had expected; I was hoping for an installation in one of the tropical islands; the artificially made ones, with beaches and a nice sun... But it seems that I have ran out of luck last week. The DIRF installation is one of the thousands of platforms, with the added bonus of being near the freezing poles. Makes me wonder if they are keeping our volunteers in or ourselves... Anyway on the report.
Me and my assistants have arrived at DIRF Installation DR-45. Officially, all test subjects are in perfect condition, extra-officially one of them is "used" but unnoticeable.
Dr Frank Enstein will arrive at the installation tomorrow. Seems he has been conducting a similar research and both will be merged. That guys is an evil genius, but he totally creeps me out. In the meantime, I will visit some of my colleagues doing different industrial research; some of them I have not seen in years. In 4 hours my assistants will wake up the test subjects. They will then be submitted to an adaptation process, which will take 24 hours. Hopefully they will all be alright.
Personally this place is sort of creepy as well; grey walls, low temperatures. Security guards armed to prevent volunteers from escaping... If the media knew about this place they would have a heart attack. For now, I have no choice than calling this huge research faciltiy, "home".

It has been two days since we woke up the test subjects. As expected the hessians banded together, and they don't seem to get along with the corsairs, who upon realizing they were outnumbered had to accept the Bretonian pirate in their group. The groups act as tribes, and despite the hostility between them, there have been no incidents. This is fascinating, I could do this all day; just watching them surviving with basics only.
Regarding their hostility, I'm sure both groups would kill each other if they had the chance; but perhaps the confusion of being in an unknown environment, surrounded by grey walls and mirrored windows, keeps them in line; they know we are watching.
Oh, Dr. Enstein arrived; as expected, he is still a creepy madman. With his arrival, we have green light to proceed with the testing. Tomorrow we will submit the 4 test subjects to the serum; then leave a one week period for the serum to activate and modify the cell metabolism.
I guess while we wait 1 week, I will hang around the other labs and see what my colleagues are up to. I'm certainly not staying close to Dr. Enstein inside our lab; and I will double lock the door to my room.
