Well, it is nice. They can do that. You don't want it? Join some stinky pirates and overthrow the government or gather enough people and start a civil war... your choice.
Or you can try a diplomatic solution of course... if you think it will have some effect. Or if you want to.
sorry to say that - but the fines are way too high. if you want to roleplay - make fines appropriate. .. and that means ... somewhere in the 100 thousands - and not in the several millions.
is it a fine that should hurt the PLAYER or is it a fine that should hurt the CHARACTER? ( a "sanction" or a roleplay fine that is more a gesture )
while 1 million might be acceptable for some huge liberty law violation - 150 million is simply... well, .. silly. that is not supporting roleplay - that is asking for a response like "i d rather die than pay up".
take at least the last zero from each penalty amount - and even if the highest fine is 15 million, i predict that it won t support roleplay much. roleplay ends for many people where RL issues start. trading for 15 millions is a full trade from A to B at a good route with a high level transport. it may well be like 20 minutes or so playtime. - and with that in mind, people will not see the reason behind it. ( i believe )
i do agree that fining these issues is a good plan - making it official law surely is, too. but not that much.
Poor newb on server spend all spared money for ship of his dreams and you kill him because he will havent money to pay:nono::nono::nono: or you give him chance to earn something and after that pay? But how can some1 new in game earn money in navy ship? 100 000... no problem but milions? Heh everybody who kill someone for this is murderer and nothing more.
Liberty is becoming more and more fascist every day. Where did a little thing called "trust" go?
Sure there are pirates and whatnot wanting to get their grubby hands on a Liberty Dreadnought but think about it. Is a Pirate really going to be popular amongst other Pirates if he/she comes back to Crete/Malta with a Liberty battleship.
1. it shows that they aren't hostile with Liberty thus can't be doing their job properly at all.
2. well it's against discovery rules anyway, why imply it in Liberty law when they can find out themselves
and get sanctioned :D
' Wrote:6. ID and role-playing engagement rules
6.2 Out of Roleplay (OORP):
In-game tag seen before the name must match the ID as closely as possible. It is not allowed to have the tag not match ID category. For example, it is prohibited to have 'Police' tag and 'Pirate' ID.
Equipment used must match tag and ID as closely as possible. For example, it is not allowed for Corsairs to use Outcast ships and guns.
People work hard and long to get the money to ge the ships they want. But then they get this barrier of Liberty Jargon to go through and half the time they will say no because these laws are almost entireley in Liberty interests. Quite frankly i wouldn't be surprised if someone decided to make the purchase in secret and risk the fine.
Liberties laws are starting to become rediculous and unneccesary.
Captain Mal: "Do you wanna run this ship!? Jayne Cobb: "Yes!" Captain Mal: "Well...........you can't"
I noticed the report of the valiant SA officer Mc'ely in the Liberty dump.
Sophie Noir was indeed carrying contraband in Liberty. Her own personal Holy Tome, the Principia Discordia.
That's one each (1ea, count 'em) unit of counterfeit software.
Now, it took six ships to waylay and threaten one Whale, carrying exactly one unit of contraband, and 4694 innocent passengers. Now, I believe one of the six was SA, two were LSF, one or two were bounty hunters, and there was one real ugly dude, callsign "Viking", in a liberty cruiser, with his big snout not 500 meters from Sophie.
Sophie agreed to drop her personal bible after noticing that this un-tagged vigilante, the Viking, also seemed to have contraband aboard in the form of two Unioner pilots. She agreed to drop the software and pay the one million fine if the Viking dropped his contraband as well. He eventually complied, and all was sweet and light.
Yeah, right. The issues?
Six lawfuls harrassing one whale, with one piece of software. She was fired upon several times in the process;
This was occurring while there were system reports of pirates massing in California, yet these six ships needed to keep Liberty safe from one religious book.. what hypocrisy. Not to mention religious persecution;
An un-tagged cruiser, the Viking, along with other BH capships, assisting the courageous lawfuls of Liberty. I thought something was gonna be done about that..?;
This supposedly "approved" vigilante, the Viking, was carrying contraband every bit as illegal as the single piece of software Sophie was carrying as part of her Discordian religion. Is that a double standard, or what..;
And finally, one million credit fine for a minor infraction. As Jinx pointed out.. this is outrageous.
I pity the new individual who has to be subjected to this overkill. What kind of impression does this make?
They make the fight an unfair fight for the opposition as soon as they can get more ships in.
All it takes is one report from one pilot and they all come running. I must admit it's one way to win a fight but it's kinda unfair for whoever they against. They do this for almost any scenario weather its refusing to submit contraband or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's straight into action, the opposition never get a second chance.
So i guess i agree with you there Malaclypse
Captain Mal: "Do you wanna run this ship!? Jayne Cobb: "Yes!" Captain Mal: "Well...........you can't"
no - from what i have seen, the LSF and SA were fighting as fair as the roleplay suggests. ( that doesn t necessarily mean that they try to reduce their forces against a threat if they have more than a "good match" up. - recently they even called independent law enforcers away, so the unlawfuls wouldn t have to deal with a whole fleet of enemies ) that doesn t concern all incidents - but for the most part, i haven t seen the official liberty forces to overkill. - the odd incident happens, but they are usually fighting with good sportsmanship.
of course - negative incidents stand out more than positive ones....
Before the angry messages start rolling in, I got approval from Admiral Woolsey himself for Linus' Liberty Gunboat. Just wanted to get that out there.
Also, I think the fines need to be made about 10% what they are now. As it stands, they're simply ridiculous and unreasonable. Among other things...sad to see Liberty sliding like this. So many rules, fines, and death penalties!
