There's far more to studying than just universities. Self-learning is a magical thing, if you're going after a subject you're interested in. Don't learn for material gain. Learn because you enjoy the topic, and want to broaden your horizons.
The enemy of progress is acceptance of the average, and the lazy atrophy of your own mind.
As for unemployed "undergrads", it helps if they don't pick useless degrees. A degree isn't an automatic job ticket any more. It actually has to have application and relevance.
If you chose to take a masters in creative writing, congratulations! You chose this for yourself!

This. Study what you wish, until you are satisfied that you understand it.

(yes, i've seen enough of those lolduels, where house military with overwhelming force on the field willingly loses a pilot in a duel. ffs.)

Bingo.
My degree is in criminology, specializing in retail and industrial security, with minors in computer science and transportation safety.
Of course, tack on 26 years of work experience, and I'm what is known as eminently employable. Seriously - I wasn't even in Oklahoma two weeks and I had a job - that sounds like it's going to be a nicely paying career.
