Swearing and RP is a funny topic.

We want to keep the quality up without devolving into a bunch of swearing neanderthals, and yet, swearing is a part of culture now. Certainly, we don't want young children being exposed to it, but in reality, by the time they've reached Middle School (Grade 6+), they've started swearing themselves. As much as people may condemn swearing, in situations of stress, it's an extremely common outburst, especially in a stressful situation containing plasma, antimatter, and nuclear deathbombs floating around in space. I'd be swearing in several languages if I was flying around New York in an unshielded fighter, trying to avoid nuke mines. I'm sure others would be too.

I suppose the overall ruling on swearing is to keep roleplay at a 'clean' level, which is understandable. But yet there's plenty of things ranging from rape, enslavery, drug sales to anyone and everyone, murder, mutilation, gore, so on. So, I sort of have to wonder where swearing overshadows those things. If I ever have children, I'd rather them be swearing at me at a young age, over being exposed to blood and gore in reality. One's less likely to mentally scar them.

My two cents.

Oh god, yes please. I wouldn't be one to argue against the rule in general, as this would result in swarms of foul-mouthed pirates (and non-pirates) dropping F-bombs everywhere.

But I would like to see it relaxed a bit, Freelancer just isn't a game for children. There's wars, substance abuse, violence, alien infestation - sure, it's suitable for young teens, but not for children.

So really, a bit of light profanity is not going to hurt anyone playing it.

It's funny that I can't say son-of-a-you-know-what when the PRESIDENT OF LIBERTY utters that very phrase in the singleplayer campaign.

My opinion anyway.

Id just like to point out that gallia uses bastard culverins. Bastard swords, theres frankly a few ways to use the word that i sumrise would be not offensive due to the name actually being such.

I get the feeling its not ok to use as an insult but ok in terms of things actually named such.

The point of this is whether the word is ok to use aa a RP insult or not and it seems it is.

Admin clarification: bastard is tame enough to be used as a RP insult. If we feel it's being used directly at the player however, that's when we get unhappy. If it's good enough for Trent and Jacobi, it's good enough for us.

Could be my audio equipment (or my ears) being all crappy, but every now and then I hear npc bandits go "f*cker's comin right for us".

While I'm sure that Freelancer doesn't have a single instance of f*ck, saying "f*cker's comin right for us" when a f*cker's comin right for us sounds pretty reasonable to me.

No atmosphere? GTFO.

Nah I'm pretty sure it's a 2 syllable word with "'s" at the end
