This thread has been an interesting read, if nothing else. Its a little discouraging to see some folk dissolve what could otherwise be excellent arguments into somewhat petty nitpicking.
However, Monk just made some of the points that I feel strongest about. Kress as well, to be honest.
- Ive read a lot of Peculiar real world comparisons justifying the ownership of certain pieces of military hardware that the new Liberty penal code would put a stop to, justifications involving shady dealings, stolen plans etc.
Im not entirely certain as to the reasoning behind all of this. Liberty doesnt want to see you flying them in space. Its within RP for them to demand that you switch vessels or be considered in defiance of the law. There are a number of civilian line vessels available to, well, civilians.
- Furthermore, the number of forum posts as of late concerning the current rash of independent vigilantes rushing about is an item that this penal code is also addressing. A curtailing of such activity within Liberty space is also within the bounds of the official Liberty factions.
Again, I find myself uncertain as to why this is such a cause of concern. Its an issue about which many have expressed frustration, and the LPI/LSF/SA is well within their rights as the dominant lawful factions to step on any local lawfuls in pursuit of establishing a unified law of the land.
Magoo stated Oh! I'll make a new LPI/Navy character under these new rediculous laws that make all 'lawfuls' in Liberty pirates, it seems to me that restricting any lawfuls within Liberty not under an official banner is going to reign in this very sort of activity.
- I could keep going, but I believe that Ive established the spirit of my point.
In conclusion, as Monk said, this is an RP server. As Praetyre stated, this is a set of regulations that has been reviewed and given the green light by the leaders of the -official- lawful factions within Liberty.
When I first came onto the server all of those long long months ago, PVP within New York was still deactivated. The joint frankly left something to be desired. When people could once again shoot at one another a transformation began to take root, one more realistically approaching, well, role play.
This is just another stage in that maturation towards being a place that stands within the realm of a roleplayed reality.
And I like the idea of protests. Makes me wish I had a civvy char.

This isnt a thread about Rp, it is a thread about game mechanics. I am not going to start taking missions to fail them, and I am not going to ignore outcasts or rogues so my aff doesnt turn police or navy. I take pride that my aff Is so strongly lawful. I believe it says something about my character in game.
If it is such a problem for people to own these ships, including the newest best tech, it should be at a guard base, and not just a trade lane away. Until it is moved, it is just a fact of life that people will use this stuff. There is no reason to punish them about it. Yeah it is always good to have an RP story for your characters, I do for all of em, but you should not have to carry a card around with you stating what the story is or what page on the forum you need to look at to confirm every time you see a new cop or navy guy. It is annoying and unnecessary. It really only should be an issue if there is someone who is obviously not suppose to have something who does. No example needed.
One more thing, this is a thread to discuss this law. Nothing here changes anything about the law. There is no magical element that will make a rule void by people voicing their displeasure about something on a general thread. If you dont like what is being said you can simply ignore it and let people, like me, rant. This is, however, the only way we can rant before we encounter this in-game and have to deal with it in a more adverse way.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.
We are the Navy, and DSE builds ships for us. Why is it wrong for us to want to restrict who uses our ships or tries to join us? Our own men can't get capital ships without the right rank (or some snub ships, for that matter), so why should Joe or Jane Liberty get them?
This was a thread which has long passed it's original purpose, to inquire about the exact meaning of a specific law, that got hijacked by people with a grievance against it. It wasn't intended to debate the law, and the law is not, as Caglar has said, up for debate except between Liberty High Command. If you disagree with Liberty law, you are more than welcome to leave for a different House or even an independent world. It's your right.
Arguments based on game mechanics don't sit well with me. You can argue just about anything with them, from Corsairs with Outcast tags in Liberty Dreadnoughts in Alaska with all Nomad guns since "you can" and Order tagged Hessian IDed Rheinland Military in Kusari battleships who shoot Republican Shipping.
It is also my right to stay where my home is and resist unjust laws. It would be very out of RP for me to just up and leave for something like a new law and drag my ship to somewhere where it would actually be out of RP.
Most of us do not fly them because they are the best (with the exception of the liberator (in my unqualified opinion), they defiantly are not) it is about maintaining something that distinguishes us as being from liberty at first glance.
Just so I am not spamming this thread even more then I already have, this will be my last post on this subject. I have made my point.

I'm just going to say if this trend develops across Kusari and Bretonia we're going to need a lot more civilian vessels. Since flying anything else without being a member of that faction would be enough to put you into debt a few million. I'm just getting tired of all these rules players keep thinking up dictating what we can and can't do.
Hmm.. if Bretonia is letting people nick their vehicles, I don't think they'll last much longer in the war with Kusari:PImagine, empty hangars where a Templar wing used to be.
Also, here, we have tax free pot (though only in 500 tons or less)
I was just chased by a bounty hunter (on my Outcast character) for 180k away from Manhatan, and while being chased, I'v seen an interesting sentence by one of the SA officers.
He said that engaging Bounty Hunters in Liberty is forbidden.
How is that true? I mean, NPC's don't care if you shoot at BHG NPC's, why should players care?
Bounty Hunters shouldn't be under protection of the Liberty authorities, and i mean it.
Why? Because they are a bunch of grunts as well.
They would kill just about anyone for a small reward, even if it's against Liberty laws.
It doesn't make sense to me. Bounty Hunter NPC's can engage you for carrying BD pilots (example, even though Blood Dragon pilots aren't contraband for Liberty authorities), but you can't retaliate without being shot down by one of the Liberty law enforcers?
Oh cmon, that isn't Liberty.
People are whining about Bounty Hunter cap whores all the time, and what do we do to prevent it?
We put them under our protection. Great..
Please someone in charge of the SA/LSF/LPI comment this.
