So your essentially saying
"Its one of those pay to win games, but the price is low so you should buy it"

Isn't that a bit, you know, hypocritical?
If you pay attention to anything they have said during the pledge drive, or in various episodes of wingman's hangar, they are not going to be done for a long while. The closest thing to done is probably the hangar application, and the new forum software; however even then its more than two months away.

Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts... perhaps the fear of a loss of power.

No it's not pay-to-win, I think. The way I understand it, you don't get any advantage over other players in terms of PVP, but you get that insurance which means you will be spending less in-game credits when you die. Not really pay-to-win, but an advantage of sorts, yes.

And by "finished soon", I mean within a year or two. Chris Roberts have proven himself extremely bad at sticking to deadlines and such, and in that light this project is progressing fast.

Umm, breaking convo topic here, but does anyone else think that Star Citizen is going to be turned into some sort of space deathmatch rather than a Freelancer 2?

I'm severely worried Roberts might fall more into the Wing Co ballpark than the Freelancer aspect; screenshots and released data appears to approve that theory. And the item shop? :S

For a game which could potentially be the next route for survival for the Freelancer style MMO, I'm losing faith.

Hopefully somebody will prove me wrong and Star Citizen won't turn into some sort of dogfighting deathmatch with on-site player pewing and no real rp or anything.

Sorry i think I'm just sore because I lost my golden ticket with all the extra goodies, special penthouse thing and Squadron 42 membership that it provides. I'll take anyone's who doesn't want it Big Grin

I think it's cute how Dusty was skeptical for so long but is now unable to talk about anything else.

The game is independently developed. Crowd sourcing through pledges and their kickstarter drive are how they're coming as close as they can to the funds they'll need to finish the project. They have corporate backers, but every dollar pledged is one less that they'll need to rely upon to finish the game.

It's an effort to maintain creative control.

The game will operate in the same fashion as Freelancer in terms of financial commitment following the release of the product. Furthermore there are no plans to allow for the purchasing of game money or other transactions involving real money currency. It's not a free to play model. It's just free to play.

The pledges are simply incentives to buy into the game now. The life time insurance that's being offered now is a long term convenience item being granted to persons who support the project by buying a "ship" and the game. Basically shaving a few credits off of your future financial obligations on ensuring the hull. Cargo and modules are still your task to look after.

The game can be modded and run on independent servers. Which is why so many people are speaking of the next generation of Discovery running off of this engine. It's the same Freelancer crew, just with a new game.

If you want a term that may appeal to your senses other than 'pledge' think of the current deal as a pre-order. $45 dollars will secure alpha and beta access, the full game upon release (including the wing commander style Squadron 42 campaign which may be played on both the server or single player) and a starter ship with a permanently insured hull for use in the "main" persistent world.

The game, upon release, will cost $60+.

Some might stay on the FL engine. Many will migrate to the new generation. If you feel that space sims and very possibly the next 'Discovery' you might consider this a financial investment not only for your future self, but in ensuring that the platform upon which they're based can achieve the highest level of excellence.

Shut up Loken.

What makes you say that?

because eventually 99% of of those "space sim fans" stated at the front page of rsi website are just underage kids who only want yoba graphics + simple pew pew, and eventually that population will ruin any RP environment.

There is no doubt that what you say is true, but those very people will get bored i promise you that, in a game where they have to talk before they can shoot will drive them to another server or just away from the game leaving us with lovely space to frolic and enjoy the graphics and our RP in all its greatness

Just because people don't like RP doesn't mean they're underage. :V
Also I highly doubt the main MMO server is going to have "Tell people you're going to shoot them before you can actually start shooting"-type rules.

underage is everywhere, its only about time when they flood the systems and start their own rewpew, anyway Im against any rules dictated from above by EULA/admins/etc except those that operate on a gameplay level and thus are part of the game itself.

if star citizen is gonna be realistically sized I think we should seriously reduce number of systems and planets to keep the density of players in each system appropriate. star citizen may be PVE, but disco should remain pvp (in a non pew sense).

No atmosphere? GTFO.

"space pewpew" is why I got Freelancer 10 years ago, can I not RP?
