Peoples mentality about Piracy demands baffles me..

Normally I pirate traders depending on its cargo and its size.
For example, if it was carrying 5k BA, I usually demand the trader 4 million.
If a Stork has no cargo I demand the trader 3 million or 3.5 million
If the trader has an ID/IFF that is my arch enemy (such as Hessians pirating Daumann) I demand them 7-10 million.

This, not that I trade anymore but I would seriously haggle down, if not rather run away or be blown up than to deal with that enormous figure.

People's mentality about trading baffles me...

90% of pirates are under the impression that they should take all profit away from a trader, since their rich anyways.

Or they have the idea that traders aren't entitled to fair play.

"Oh look, a helpless trader, let's ruin his day and make those 2 hours he's spent trading go completely to waste by taking all his money."

Empty transport? Charge them 3 million credits, cause this is real life, and they have alot to lose. /sarcasm

Hey look, this ship has cargo worth 15 million credits, let's charge him 14 million, nevermind the fact he spent 5 million credits to BUY that cargo.

Pirates are so much more 1337 than traders, we deserve their money and cargo and EVERYTHING.

dear people,

I generally do not use transports or trade but as a long term pirate faction player I can share my experiences from the other side with you, both my principles for pirating and my experience and what I do on an average day of pirating, when I go.

My principles: Firstly, I appreciate that this server is a roleplay server. Therefore, it brings me immense fun to play the role that I have as a corsair pilot and for the same reason piracy (for me) is not about credits or cargo, it is about (roleplay-) performance.


And what does this mean?

Perormance means that for me it is a bit like a stage performance, theatre or acting for a movie. I see piracy as an act of (roleplay-) performance and therefore I try to perform a good act.

At the same time I try to keep the fun of everyone else in mind. So how can I make piracy fun for not just me but also the one being pirated?

My solution: Because most people do not enjoy loosing a lot of their cargo or credits, I usually pirate only miniscule amounts of cargo or credits (fifty!! thousand!! credits!! ) or make a pure roleplay demand (like for example for.. furniture!) unless someone enjoys greater loss.

Some people are really awesome to roleplay with and we had super great fun rping with them on our shopping sprees piracy raids.


My experiences: Oh boy, those range from super horrible to super awesome. For example, I was once pirating with a few others and as we stopped a trader, he f1ed in space without a word. That was one of the bad experiences.

As for a neutral experience I once stopped a firefly transport in leeds with a cruise disruptor and asked for 500.000 credits! ... I waited... time went by... and.. suddenly he transferred 500.000 credits! And reactivated cruise engines. Not a word. But oh well

Awesome experiences are when for example we see a trader and stop them and he starts to interact with us and rp as if the situation was real and actually being worried over his cargo, his ship , his life, or his crew!. We rped super nice with him and ended up arranging further rp connected to food shipments to Crete or something and we stayed in touch with the player for a good while.


Summary: There are many ways to pirate and my own is only one way. There are a myriad of other, different approaches to piracy that are all completely valid and awesome I am sure.

If I get the impression someone does not enjoy pirate interaction at all, I try to be quick and perhaps find an rp reason to simply let them go (no cargo? nothing of use?). The most important part about piracy, for me, is to create fun and rp.

Creating rp is easy but creating fun is the hard part when you try to extort someone at gun point... but we love the challenge!

Outside of Gallia asking 4 million for 5k BAs is taking more than the entire profit.I doubt anyone will pay who isn't supplying a POB (and those were excluded by Spazzy). Asking 7 or even 10 million for a bunch of BAs is just asking for a cheap kill. And people have been sanctioned for it before.

I remember I stopped a Liner on Corsair full of Vips and asked him to give me only 10 of them. But captain had to choose himself which 10 of all those will they be. They had to be used for organs. The guy picked the RP line and we had a cool RP session about that.

That attitude even makes it likely for traders to send you bigger amounts of cash than requested. Often even more than he'd have been willing to pay if asked for it straight away.

This guy is doing it right.

When you demand 5 million credits from me, you get the generic "oh really? Isn't that a bit much? blah blah". When you demand 10 million from me, you get absolutely minimal RP, you're trying to ruin my fun, so I'm going to try to ruin your fun.

However, demand something like less than 1 million credits, or some RP demand, and I will RP with you like a pro, there will be a good time had by both me AND you, and usually, I'll give you a generous amount of credits just for being a cool guy.

It's a simple cost-benefit analysis.

1) I can be blown up, suspend my trading for 2 hours, and be down 500k.Verdict: Negative outcome. Down 500k, do something else for 2 hours.
2) I can pay this pirate the full value of my cargo, and continue on my route, wasting my time to break even. Verdict: Extremely negative outcome. I run the remainder of my route for net zero, which is a full waste of my time. Least logical decision.
3) I can drop my cargo, go get more and wait for the pirate to be gone. Verdict: Least negative of the 3 outcomes. Down 500k, go get more cargo, try and find away around pirate or wait for him to be gone. Most RPable outcome. Could hire an escort. Could try to escape him next time.
4) You make a reasonable demand. Like 1 or 2 mil. I RP with you. I pay the fine. Verdict: Everyone comes out positive. You have 1 or 2 mil, I get roughly 10 mil from my cargo. I still use the route. Possibly with escorts next time.


2 will always be my last option. 4 will be my first option. 1 or 3 will be second, no matter what. My time is more valuable than the credits I lose. Running the remainder of my route for 0 profit is not logical.

I won't do the // message, but I'll RP it in such a way that leads to my destruction or him asking for cargo.

The second you demand the full value of my cargo, I will write you off as a lolwut and find the most spiteful way to end the encounter. If I can shoot my own cargo, I will. If you sit on a route, and pirate every trader the full value of their transport, they will stop using that route. and then you have no one to pirate. It's not a sensible pirating tactic.

I love how this derailed into accusing people of asking 12 million.
Nobody is asking anyone 12 million. Stop twitching.
That means you, Interspace, even if it hits close to home.

Nobody is arguing that asking 100% in money is a bad thing.




I am just pointing out that for it is funny how people do not mind being asked 100% in cargo.
Everyone just chill, re-read the first post and try again.
