That's the problem. It's hard to distinguish. Plus, someone can easily fake a personal offence and sanction them for it. It's just not worth the risk I suppose.

I understand, but if you would permit me, I have a question: Can't it be distinguished based on the context and the entirety of that RP encounter? Especially considering that in order for it to be directed at the ooRP player, it needs to be an ooRP message containing the "//"

If it does not, then it is inRP and directed to the character. The faker would have to initially sanction him for sending ooRP messages and secondly for insulting.

But at this moment, the one who casted the insults can easily demonstrate that his messages were actually inRP by providing the entire encounter, demonstrating that there is something that lead the character casting these curses.

Or if he uses them simply on a regular basis, then provide different encounters to show that they weren't merely casted on him, but were just a general character flavour.

But oh well, those are just my thoughts on these kind of scenarios

I do agree, it should only be taken OoRP if someone uses the "//" to direct a comment to someone outside of character personalities. The problem is, the aggressor may start using malicious vocabulary in their IRP speech following their death or something. Sometimes people get rather aggressive to the point where i've began to believe that they're simply raging about it and can't contain to their group/skype chat.

But again, you are right that if used IRP, it should stay within that barrier and those on the receiving end should just take it how their character would.

In theory, I'd be for allowing a greater degree of cursing, but the problem lies in the line between IRP and OORP. Something a character says IRP may be taken OORP by another. This is a problem with a lot of speech that's banned by the rules, not just F-words- whilst it may be perfectly in-roleplay to say something racist, sexist, homophobic etc. even if you as a player don't hold those views, but someone could mistake it for an OORP insult.

Or someone who likes good sci-fi.

Thats debatable, but just cos a show is good, it isnt necessarily good to speak as though you're in it. Hence why I dont go around calling people "everypony".

It became popular with me and few other Order players back in 4.85 after we all watched the series. I still use it from time to time, mostly because I'm still a BSG fanboy. Big Grin

Who cares. This is a space shooter game where even the NPCs swear. If you're so high and mighty where you can't handle your character being called a <FEMALE DOGE>, then chances are you didn't contribute much anyways

BRB CALLING OFFENDED POLICE

Sidenote: I didn't read the last 6 pages

You know, I'll actually walk around and drop this argument if the 'Nein' ad on Rheinland is replace with a Porno ad.

I said this is another thread, gaming and RP aside, you should learn to conduct yourself in a manner that doesn't require you to swear every other word. In reality, I'm sure for many of you playing this game is one of the few places you actually have to work at it. Now that's true RP, IMO.

the argument that, just because 5-year-olds playing Call of Duty may cuss up a storm doesn't mean anything. I'm sure 12-year olds in country X are looking at porn daily, but that doesn't mean that should now be acceptable.

Learn to communicate in a way that isn't explicitly vulgar. It's possible, and you'll actually be more intelligent because of it.

Seriously? Something as small as cussing gets a 7 page thread?

You people seriously need to rethink your priorities.... Seriously.

Not exactly, but close enough I suppose, past is past, details are irrelevant.

But ye, I can criticize, because I've criticized myself about similar things. 8|

Language has evolved over the past 1000 years or whatever, making current swear words archaic and unlikely to be used. Noobs.
