It is quite right assumption, let say that the numbers of abusing this would be as slim as the numbers of ship sale scrammers. This is not CS where you can simply change your IP and MAC when you get banned. You loose your stuff if you cross the line and abuse it. Also note that there is no problem if 1-2 people vote for fun since at least 10 are needed to tempban someone.
I do agree with Marburg, small simple things can fix so much.

This problem is multi-layered & server cops won't fix it

Self policing trumps server policing & yet self policing is no longer the norm here. The hackers hack because people give them fame & a reason to keep coming back.

There are some very simple techniques to improve this place & while they won't solve every problem this place has, they will help with a turnaround.

I'll be happy to tell y'all what needs to be done, but the Reactionaries need to 1st get over how they see the problem & begin to be willing to get proactive.

What magical simple techniques are you exactly talking about? I can't think of anything short of "Discovery death & rebirth" fixing current comunity. Although, it reminds me of how stupid "don't threaten people with sanctions" rule is.

That's on the bases that the people voting around you aren't complete and utter morons.
Question, have you ever played an FPS game with votekick?

The angels seem to be less concerned about helping people, than sitting next to Erie and Manhattan, allowing people to gawk at whatever FX the admins have placed on their ship.

Not too long ago we had a Zoner whale docking in NY, and we tried to ask an Angel if he could help deal with this, since there was a raid coming and we had better things to do at that point.
His reply was something along the lines of "Do I look like an admin? Report him if he is doing it."

Yeah you actually asked me to do that, Spazzy you've been here long enough to know what the Angels role is, so don't blame me, but blame yourself instead. It's just not my job, okay?

if your in a game with that feature and you either have a lot of lolwuts or you have hackers....

that "self-policing" option goes flying out the window.

Sorry for the question but how old are you? I guess you lack basic logics and argumentation. 10 years ago when I was in school we had logic as discipline, what you learn nowadays?
I played FPS games may be before you were born- stuff like Doom 1 and Quake 1 and 2. Cheating in servers started with Q2 actually.
I would say it for the third time- this game is not FPS game, you have stuff that you can loose if you misbehave,in Battlefield/CS etc games you loose nothing if you are banned from the server, you just go around your ban or play on another server.
If you cannot comprehend this major difference I see no point really of you commenting on this topic because you cannot contribute to it at all.
Funny example is that the WoW community is strongly against gold miners and item miners just because their stuff looses value. Same story here- you abuse the command, np, the one that get tempbaned by abusers reports it and admins delete all the stuff of the abusers.
Again for third time how many ship sale violations you see? For around 3 years since the Ship sales are possible I bet that there are not more then 20 sanctions about Ship sale scrammers, while today I counted more then 10 people killed by hackers in front of NY and right now infront of NT...
You can clearly abuse ship sale command after you receive the credits and give no ship in return but yet the cases of abuse are minimal to none, can you explain this phenomena using your limited point of view? Same abuse option like Vote but none abuse it why? If you have no idea what to say just does not water down the topic with useless +1 type replies or bring some solid argumentation.
Reason and logic is what is lacking in huge amounts in the next generation of gamers as it seems.

I'd call that a lack of both imagination & pragmatism.

It's not the server that needs fixing, It's the attitudes of many people on it.

The Marburgosian Laws:
(for better homes & gardens)

1) When you log off the server for the day, make sure you've done something that somehow makes the server a better place than when you signed in. This is not difficult. The "Pay it Forward" concept works well. All that's required is to do something for a random someone that they can't do for themselves, under the general condition they (the random someone) do the same for someone else at random in the near future when they are in a position to be helpful themselves.

2) Place more importance on the spirit of the rules & not the letter of 'em.

3) Realize what "It's just a game" actually means & don't get bent out of shape like a deep down trauma hound when things don't go your way. No one likes a whiny little pussy & no one has ever died from chilling the eff out & laughing things off

That's only 3, but I have more...

Send every player to Bastille Tongue jkjk
But keep administration the way it is already, although give Angels the ability to kick players if needed?

I hadn't encountered hackers on the server before, had my first encounter today.

Whilst it's exactly what they want to achieve in doing this, I couldn't help but feel as if Disco is... broken.
I even meant to post a thread about it, but after taking the Sandwich Rule I decided it would only boost their e-peens and nothing else.
For this particular issue, I don't think even constant server policing will help, and I sincerely hope our Admin overlords will come up with a final solution, most likely by patching the server up.

For general player misbehaviour, even if an Admin was at hand at all times, I can't think of an example where it would be a lot advantageous as opposed to just filling a report.
