Good points from Praetyre here. In fact, if we were to argue that NPCs are separate from their parent PC factions, then we wouldn't have anyone breaking Lieutenant rank in the military.

How many Admirals have less than 20 people under their command?

None.

I think the problem with who gets what really depends on the faction. yes, RM should not allow independents to own capships and such, because where's the military part of it? BHG should have the right to be independent and own capships at the discression of the guard system faction, because bounty hunters is not based of chain of command, they're basically mercs but more respected. The same thing goes with who can bow each other up within the faction. i have yet to see a justified killing inside of a military force, especially that so loyal as rhineland. it more or less depends on what kind of faction it is.

Chain of command doesn't mean crap if the respect and authority isn't recognized. Pay attention, RP with the faction, etc. etc. the same stuff going on for several pages.

I totally agree with you. The BHG, by their nature, are independent. Each BHG would be a Duane Chapman-esque individual of varying wealth levels occaisionally with smaller apprentice hunters beside him under a loosely defined code and maybe a Guild Council (ala the Zoner Council) of some kind. Totally different situation.

I went for 'fine as it is'.

I'm a newb to Disco & the server (1st post \o/ ), and very much understand the problem that capship spam brings, even if the caps can be taken out by two or three dedicated (and unlike me, competent) pilots without problems. However, seeing as this is an RP server, there's already a major restriction on them (other than the billion in cash you need to cough up to get & gear one): they can't be flown OOC.

As far as i'm concerned, that takes out all police/military vehicles; and for the unlawfuls there's really no reason to tug around in them unless they're off to meet another one for a major fight (as in planned Outcast vs. Corsair event for example). While i eventually plan on getting one, i have as of yet no IC idea on how to do it, and tbh all i'll probably do with it is sit around in the guard system taking screenshots of it - the way i see it, if you don't have a plausible story to go with your BS, you don't take it out to meet other players.

I did pick up a gunboat the other day, mostly because i'm an atrocious pilot, and exploring the universe in a heavy fighter is suicidal at times, so i upgraded. Since i don't like the way it looks (it's actually ok, but i don't like the pseudowings on it), i'll probably switch the Explorer for an Orca (i'd really prefer the IMG, LH or Kursai one, but there's no plausible way to fly them as a Zoner, so i'll let them be); but i have no intention of going to look for (pvp) trouble with it, instead i need the big shields to not croak to Wilds & Nomads when exploring instead of Datastorming disco.

So short version: anything bigger than a gunboat needs to be IC, which disqualifies most of them according to server rules already, and even with a gunboat you have to think about it first to stay IC.

PS: I'd fly a Zoner gunboat, but there isn't one as of yet. ETA is 4.85 iirc?

I chose #1 ... ONLY approved factions should have battleships. RP dictates that only large organizations would be capable (financially) to afford such a vessel. I would also say that a faction should only be able to afford a few of them. In other words ... the entire faction would not be allowed a battleship ... they are just too expensive (RP wise) for everyone to have one.

I would also agree to placing them in guard systems and making those purchasing them solid green with that NPC faction before being able to purchase one.

Good poll here Puck...
