Ages ago, I swapped some music around in Discovery, and all was well. I chose music for the Independent Worlds that was suited to Galileo and Kepler, where my then-Hacker spent most of her time.

But then I went to Cortez, and the music I had chosen for the dark clouds and quiet lanes of Galileo was completely out of place.

A fair number of systems have these issues. Some are somewhat hamfistedly compensated for - Omega-49, for example, uses Tau space and some vanilla SP tracks. Others are completely glossed over. Cayman, despite being visually very distinct from basically anywhere (the red will do that), uses Omega music. And Kansas uses standard Independent Worlds music, yet it has a very clear Liberty atmosphere in starscape and planets.

Now, I know it can be hard to find good music that also fits the overall musical theme of the game, so that's not what I'm here for.

What I'd like to know is if it's possible for the anticheat to be updated to ignore the music lines of system INI files.

Failing that, is it possible that the next mod version could just make a second copy of the vanilla tracks set for those oddball systems and the other parts of the Independent Worlds? 'Possible' may not be the right word, since I'm sure it is (change lines, copy-paste, rename files, update anticheat), but you get my idea.

The point of both of these requests is so whoever is unsatisfied with the current situation can simply change the music themselves. Both of these options would give music mods a little more flexibility (or a lot more for the first one), and the latter at least wouldn't require any significant developer time.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm fully aware that to most people this isn't a noticeable issue, before anyone says it.

Freelancer music in general is boring to me. (Gallia has cool music though)

Do they do a good job of setting the atmosphere for the location/event? Yes, but they're still boring tracks I've heard 100000 times.

Ah, but that's another reason for this change - so it's easier for the end-user to change the music without having to worry about blaring inconsistencies like the one I described in my first couple lines.

The New York soundtrack still is nostalgic as hell...

Did you try to replace old files with new?

For example, create your file with new music and name it music_liberty_space.

Then just replace original music_liberty_space in Freelancer Music folder with yours new

You're missing my problem, so let's walk you through it.

I replace the Independent Worlds music. This replaces all Independent Worlds music, with no way to seperate the bleak northern IWs (Galileo/Kepler), the peaceful Barrier Worlds (Coronado, Cortez, Magellan), and the warzone of Bering and Hudson.

There's also no way to give guard systems different music, if I wanted to.

Omega-49 will use whatever Tau music I have set, even if I wanted to give that system a completely seperate set of music to reflect its (usual) peaceful nature compared to the messes in the Taus.

This is actually something I would do... I would love to input a rather upbeat Techno song for battle music.
