In terms of out of roleplay motivation, your friend was shot because they didn't stop. In roleplay, every Onuris that explodes is a victory for the Nomads.
Twenty or more cruise disruptors are more than a subtle hint to stop, wouldn't you agree?
To a clearly new guy? He thought you were shooting at him.
Also, wouldn't you agree that a small "//hey I just want to RP" would make everyone's day better? It's about being a decent player not RP here, since if it was all about RP I would zip it.

I see no point in making such PM, seens fairly redundant given the server's name, wouldn't you agree? If the person doesn't stop after being CD'ed how many times - the outcome is rather obvious at this point. Decency is a two-way street, had your friend didn't try to cruise off 30th time things could have turned different, but I wouldn't count on that your friend would have gotten away without being shot, unless his RP somehow made him alive more valuable than dead. Generally speaking RP goes that unless the encountered character is a high ranking Order person (or say there was established roleplay beforehand) he is of no value to Nomads being alive.

No, I wouldn't agree. I like to think that people still view this server as a roleplay one, and thus every encounter by definition is in roleplay "unless proven otherwise".
If the average player on this server considers a line like "//Hey I just want to RP" necessary to actually do something other than shoot eachother, we might as well remove "RP" from the server name.

Lets say he did realize, what does that mean? That he didn't realize he's not being attacked? You know how many new folks I've met that thought I am attacking them when they were fired on by a single CD?
This rant is about how should you treat a new guy on the server, one that has been on it for 10-20 minutes maximum and the crappy attitude that he got from existing players that drove him away from it. Then you wonder why the server is dying? Seriously?
Anyway, I am done here, not gonna bother if you don't understand what's wrong to see a new guy and blast him away instead of trying to help him with the ropes. Not even worthy a 1/10 of my time.

Firstly, what codenames are there in Minor? I'd love to know and I am sure the rest of the community too.
And I have no idea who's Russ_Battleship, the game was alt-tabbed, didn't know he was even still logged.
EDIT: Also, if it was about code hunting I'd just wait until you'd change ship and go back to where I've been killed.
He is your friend, Panny, not ours. We don't even know the guy. You know he is a new player. We don't. You failed to help your friend to familiarize with the environment and the basics. We simply follow the established behaviour in situations with given information (or lack thereof). Your complaint bases off on assumption that we should have known he is a new player. A false and unrealistic assumption at that. People behind the displays don't have the capacity to read minds of another player. And we don't analyze each player movement to determine if he's a new player or not, and how new the player is. But even if the player did say he is a new guy around, what of that? Why would it had to play out any different given the circumstances.

The infamous Defiler. The community, for most of the part, is aware of that already.
Em, mate. If you let your nublet at the controls, you could have at least printed out the server rules for him.
CDing is not an attack. Not knowing the rules does not justify any screwup on their part.

First, as mentioned by Treewyrm:
I don't think any of the Nomads have a highly advanced New Player Detector mounted on their ships. Wreck hunters have used unarmored CSVs. An unarmored Onuris is not by definition a new player.
Second:
We've had arguments like these before. Being a new player does not get you a "Get out of jail free" card in regards to being shot. My first ~60 minutes on the server, I got a Camara and got pirated for half a million. I didn't have half a million. I died.
I sucked it up, looked up a different route on the wiki and continued.
It's a matter of attitude. If you overreact to dying to the extent that you quit if you die in a perfectly sensible way (flying an Order ship and being shot by a Nomad is probably one of the most "logical" engagements you can get), the server is probably better off without you.
Space is dangerous. The Omicrons, and Nomads, even moreso.
