Its not the point of freighters to get missiles. They are more of a smuggling, fast, important trade ship. Not a combat ship using advanced rocket propelled weaponry.

Exactly.

If you have not noticed, Transports and Freighters usually are able to have equipped different guns. They are not meant for only combat and would not need missiles when they are in PR used to transport important goods.

I think it would be fine as long as the missiles aren't too powerful or have too tight a turn rate. Fighters, bombers, and gunboats trying to kill you still have cms, and that's one less gun turret they have firing at them.

Or were you guys specifically referring to freighters, rather than transports?

I like this idea.

I like this idea a lot.

On the proviso that heavier transport/freighter weapons, like missiles, take up a larger amount of cargo space. You want to turn that Grizzly of yours into a mobile weapons platform? Fantastic, but don't expect to haul much cargo with it. It would give offensively-geared police freighters, intended for interception and seizure, an edge over the smugglers they pursued (unless of course said smuggler was also willing to sacrifice that cargo space). No need for them to out-gun fighters, but something that forces the player to make a conscious choice in terms of profit for their cargo vs their ability to defend it can only make things more interesting.

I'm for heavier transport weapons in general, not just missiles. Hiding a well-armed but virtually cargo-less transport ship in a convoy would add a bit of excitement to piracy for both sides, I think. Q-Ships, anyone?
