suppose your standard quasi smuggler has 3600 cargo
suppose you wanna smuggle without being detected
I have an idea - smuggling partitioning
like hard disk partitioning, but with your ship
setting this up can only be done at unlawful shipyards, and the max size of the smuggling partition is the max size of your ship.
However the smuggling partition runs on fuel, and each cargo take up twice the amount of space than it did in order to accomodate the special containers (and cloak) used to contain the cargo
and the setup cost - integrating the cloak device onto your ship as well as creating a smuggling hold - is expensive and requires a small cloak plus a few ten mils
and the fuel itself can be cloaked
but you cant sell the cargo directly, you have to move the cargo from your smuggling hold to your main hold before you can sell them, and you can only do so through a simple command that moves everything, so it is advisable to have adequate remaining cargo space before you can move it into your main hold
and don't think this protects you from everything - if anyone scanning you have specific military personnel on board, they can order you to drop your shields and board your ship, whereas they will be able to report the contents of your smuggling hold

No atmosphere? GTFO.

Seems like a good idea, but what if they just reduced the percent chance that the cargo would be detected by a scan?

I have counter-tactics. Scan multiple times.

I mean to like 10-20%. The good ones could make it 5%.

Although there would be the scan-spammers, which frankly is ooRP anyway. What officer would scan a single person 20 times in hope of finding some contraband? We could counter this by adding a refresh to scanning of 5 seconds or so.

I have another idea which could be easier to implement- add another command called /cloakcargo which cloaks cargo to scans but keeps the ship visible, consumes 25% fuel of regular cloaking, allows the sustaining of shields but constantly consumes a percentage of the cloak's normal power core requirement. similar to regular cloaks in all other respects

I'll have to disagree on the scan-multiple times oorp part, as if the knowledge of such a partition is general knowledge, then an officer would be silly not to scan a suspicious ship multiple times in hopes of finding anything. of course an alternative would be to give scanning a loading bar, ie. you have to be in scanner range for an extended period of time before you can find the cargo.

But it's a SMUGGLING partition, it's not meant to be general knowledge...

Not really that ooRP. In real life, the officer would just pull your vehicle over and do a direct inspection of your cargo if he suspected contraband.

how about the weaker armour upgrades are weaker cos they hide contraband in them.

the contraband is completely hidden

however, its only a limited amount of hidden cargo for balance. maybe 100 units.
