Is anyone looking forward to this?

I remember playing Frotier (Elite 2) on the Amiga when I was a kid, I loved it! The only reason I found Freelancer was because I was looking for modern games that were similar to Elite/Frontier.

I originally got FL to play SP only as I've never bothered playing online games before.

Elite 4 is going to be online multiplayer...

Looks like Star Citizen might have some competition, but I can't take this game seriously. They claim that they have the biggest sandbox ever but that claim is also held by several other games.

It's safe to say their inflating themselves.

Hah, I've seen exactly the same video earlier this day already, when I was searching for new SC stuff.

Of course I'm looking forward to it. Played ELITE on my old C64 back then. Good memories.

Also, Elite: Dangerous will be released before SC. In march 2014 I've read.

I fail to this see how their claim is any less legitimate than Star Citizen's, unless you have something more concrete than Chris Roberts' word to prove otherwise.

Anyway the video looks like the same old Freespace with shiny graphics deal, nothing revolutionary.

I thought this thread was about Pokemon.

The Elite 4 or something.

Did Roberts claim to be creating the "Largest Sandbox" also? If he did, I most likely didn't notice it because of the flood of info on the pages.

But if he really did say that than I must say that I have lost faith in SC...

Well he basically claimed that systems would be infinite and procedurally generated and kinda never run out. So.. yeah, he did.

That doesn't necessarily make it exciting however even if they do it.

Removed your second post for ya.

Procedurally generated is slightly different than the "Largest Sandbox" claim, but I see what you mean.

Not really. A sandbox is a sandbox, whether made by hand crafting or procedural generation or a combo of both.

If you want my opinion the direct and current future of gaming before we can code more realistic and interesting environments to generate themselves, is more player control over the environment. Chris Roberts makes a couple of interesting claims in that regard but there are so many other glaring issues with SC that I can't see it going quite the way people expect it will.

Anyway as for this Elite 4 here I've never played the other Elite games but I'll probably at least give it a try. Just this particular video doesn't really show anything new or interesting despite how well put together it is.
