Then make a shortcut to the game, where ever it is installed. (Either in the common file, or in Program Files (x86) - you may have to search for that one.)

Then in the shortcut you make, start the game with Admin rights.

I know you want to keep the Steam overlay up while playing, but it's one of those things that you can do one or the other, not both.

@all,
I can already run and play the game by right clicking the launcher exe or the shortcut I made on the desktop.
If I can't use the Steam overlay, there is no reason to involve Steam at all.

@Agmen,
Making a desktop shortcut via Steam creates an internet shortcut (.url) file that opens steam://rungameid/229100.
When I right click it, there is no option to run it as admin.

Trogdor, while people say Vista is crap because of this or because of that, Vista with its 2nd Service Pack is perfectly acceptable.

However, I merely added the Freelancer.exe from discovery into my steam and it works perfectly fine, overlay and all. I am, however, on an Administrator account and using Windows 8.

Maybe an OS upgrade (preferably a reformat) would fix it. I don't know how Steam fares on Vista compared to other Windows versions.

EDIT: However, I have not played FL in awhile and this was before the beta for 4.87 came out

EDIT AGAIN: Trogdor I am so sorry I didn't read the thread at all and thought it was for Freelancer. Your problem is not Steam, however, but most likely the MMO. For example, WoW could run and show the steam overlay until Mists of Pandaria came out.

Yeah I know the MMO has problems, I was hoping someone might point me in the direction of a workaround.
