Coin, Savas, does this look like flood to you? I didn't think so.

So true

This Galaxy is vast; its wonders and beauty are almost unfathomable. But the galaxy also hides dark secrets, some of which have lain dormant since the beginning of time itself. There is a danger in secrets, both in seeking and in knowing. Some things are meant to be hidden from view. Some mysteries defy understanding, and sometimes even the things we think we know are untrue. Some secrets should remain untouched.

Threads intended for the specific purpose of complaining/whining/"QQ"ing about a topic and/or inciting drama based around one's disagreement with said topic.

Retired, permanently.

I was actually making a point. Yes, there was humour in my post as well, but the point was that this appears to be trial by forum of those who trial by forum. TBF is bad, mmkay? However, there does need to be a vent for when the player feels that there is an unfair situation. Calling this a QQ thread is immature and offensive - it basically says to the author " you are being a big cry-baby and need to man-up; I don't consider you as important enough to post anything else by way of explanation".

I remember when TBF/QQ threads were EDITED, not CLOSED. But that was in the dim and distant past. Moderators of this forum have a staggering responsibility - YOU are the customer services representatives. it falls on your shoulders alone to ensure that stuff posted here doesn't upset people. Whilst you can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, not trying to please anyone is a sure fire recipe for some geek in his mum's basement DDOSing the server, or multiplying armour, or causing mining to drop 100m credit cards, etc etc.

If people are happy, they don't look for revenge. If people cannot vent their frustration and anger, their emotional state inevitably declines.

TLDR:

inb4lock

trial by forum of those who trial by forum? seems legit.

So basically, if you had moderator powers, TLI...you'd do absolutely nothing and let the bickering, flaming, insulting, non-sensual spam and idiocy carry on?

I'm glad you're not a mod. Moderators know their purpose and they use it well. If a thread had served it's purpose i.e. question answered, then it's locked. If it's degraded into senseless shot firing, it gets locked. In flood, rules still apply. Trial by forum is boring and such arguments can be saved for Skype chats.

Get over it.

I never said that they should never lock threads. However, I do believe that they should delete offensive and aggressive posts, rather than an entire thread simply because of one particular reply.

What I did say is that they sometimes lock threads that aren't causing any trouble or violating any rules.

And then, of course, there are people who think it's okay to attack someone just because you feel like you're on the same side as moderators. It's never okay, so don't do it. You should try discussing the actual point of this conversation instead of saying "you would be a bad moderator" and "this is my evidence, things that have nothing to do with anything you said".

I'm not a moderator, and I'm not asking to be one. That doesn't mean I can't bring up something that moderators may have accidentally forgotten over time which they might need to be reminded of, which would be that locking someone's thread, especially the thread of someone who is upset about an issue, causes that person stress. Instead of locking a thread because you anticipate the possibility of aggressive replies to that thread, you should simply delete the aggressive replies. By locking the thread, all you're doing is teaching people that all they have to do to get a thread locked is make enough bad posts with enough bad accounts and you'll just lock the whole thread.

Good posts. Don't let ego/pride destroy the amazing experience Discovery has to offer. That goes for everyone. Tongue
