Hi, maybe I missed something but I was wondering how now works rule about docking during battle.

Before scanners were changed, it was simple. Everybody had same range (14K). I can see him so he can see me so I can´t dock or I´m considered death during battle.

But now, there are different scanners. So I´m rushing to base, equipped with scanner that has 10K range. I don´t see anybody, I dock, refill and want to return to battle. But little more than those 10K away is somebody from that fight with better scanner that has range 14K or even 25K.

Will he see my docking message? Because if I would know that, I wouldn´t dock. But I can´t until I re-enter battle and he say "man, I saw you dock, leave". And I even can´t know if he really saw me or he is lying just to get one enemy away (we all know there are people willing to do this).

So, did I miss something what keeps this clear, or there is now new "hole in the matrix" so to say?

Good point. We will need a word from developers and admins to see where this leads.

I would like to know the Answer to that too!

He will see your docking msg, but you aren't in range... I see conversations between pilots but I don't see them on scanners

I'd like to know how the new scanning ranges influence local chat. Before it was simple - if he's on your scanner, he can read your chat. Now... huh?

As Core said...

I saw that too, it is probably still set to 14K. So with weaker scanner, you can see talk but not the source ship on your scanner. And vice versa, with weak scanner you can be "tapped" - you don´t see anybody on 10K scanner but he may be 12K away and "listen" everything you say. Making shady deals without witnesses is even more dangerous now Smile

The range at which local chat is broadcast appears to be dependent on scanner range, actually. A Battleship (with a Battleship Scanner) parked on New Haven was local-chatting all the way to Orange Station.

But yeah. It'd be nice to know if I can safely dock on a station. It's not a common occurrence, but it happens.

Ah yes...that's a very good point. Will be interesting to see what the solution is. I can see this causing a lot of headaches unless we get a very clear ruling on it.

This whole scanner thing is bad. It just over-complicates things.

As far as I know, you shouldn't be fighting within range of a stations docking message, unless someone runs to it, and then you'd expect them to be docking anyway.
