Hi, I know that ID's are non RP items now but what I'm wondering here is something i saw today, An Eagle fighter with police IFF and a freelancer ID, now to my understanding a freelancer cannot do certain things that perhaps an officer could do so I'm wondering how would this combo work exactly in RP terms without it conflicting and without referring to the ID in RP?

Well, from an RP point of view....you could ask to him to transmit police credentials if he orders you to do something....or you could just not comply...and he technically cannot do anything about it, since FL's cannot engage somebody unless paid to or unless defending themselves.

Or...you could ask to speak to his superiors at the Police HQ...and see what he does.

Yea i really don't like this whole NON-RP item thing aye leaves the door way open to confusion and mishaps not to mention extra workload for admin, would be so much easier and less confusing for all if it was an RP item, much like a drivers licence so to speak

I admit I didn't read half of the thread because on the first page already the same bullcrap popped up from time to time, so...

Education time!
For the simple minded

So, let's get started...

ID: This is what you are, what you can do and what you can't, where you can go and do your stuff and where you can only look and defend yourself. This is what defines you. Others don't see it as they cannot judge you from the first looks of your person. Others judge you by your ship, gear and actions.

IFF: This is how you look to your surroundings. Others see it and can make first judgements by it. Defines your allegiance, if you have any.

Now let's see the most famous combination, the one people tend to whine about most of the time:

Freelancer IFF: This means that you are a random person in Sirius. You can be anybody, and I mean ANYBODY. Good guy, bad guy, the shady one, this is the IFF which tells literally nothing about you. Space is dangerous and filled with the worst folks. Keep an eye out on who you meet and who they are. I seriously don't get how come people get mad when it turns out the supposedly "freelancer" isn't as lawful as they expected to be... nothing nowhere says that somebody working for his own gain has to obey laws set by others.

Pirate ID: Your guy with low morals, bigger greed and a gun aiming at you. You will find out this fast if he wants somethign from you, if doesn't, you are lucky he didn't rob you. Pirates are everywhere, expect them everywhere. If you survive an encounter, remember that B's name.

Freelancer IFF/Pirate ID: It's easy to reveal the true intent, to collect some "criminal record", just test his behavior, after that you only need to remember/note down the name. This shouldn't be that hard.

Nothing you couldn't counter with a hint of Roleplay. The only issue is the Bounty system right now, which I expect the Admin team to adress soon.

Read the whole thread here.

In the situation you brough up, your character would technically see that other one as a police character (due to IFF), but he won't be allowed to act like one (due to ID). I hope this helps.

It's easy to blow the cover though, just ask him to help against an unlawful. If he asks for money, he is a Freelancer... or an LPI... or GRP... these two tend to be corrupt... but ship and gear matter as well, LPI and GRP would rather be in their own crafts than in a generic Eagle.

Quick Edit...

Quote:...Others don't see it as they cannot judge you from the first looks of your hull.

Unless you're flying an obvious faction-based ship (i.e. Molly destroyer, Corsair Legate, Outcast Storta, Gallic Valor, etc.) or using faction-based tech.

But I'm assuming you mean that MOSTLY just in regards to Freelancer/Pirate IDs. Wink

I suggest to keep a finger ready in F9 key and check EVERY ship you encounter. You will see the Ship name, that will help you for Continue or Run Away ASAP! hahahahahaha

Dangerous spaces these days....

Enjoy!

Good point, and yes, it was mostly written in regards of that combo, thinking about changing that little bit.
