Why we are on Disco:
-RP
-Vehicular oriented space sandbox
I have an idea for an arma mod (or a game) in the spirit of Freelancer
Basically, the premise is a huge open world full of nothing, with an emphasis on vehicular sandbox in a waterworld/ space-like enviornment (and a slight touch of realism)
ArmA 2 is so power hungry and only has a 225km^2 map (and a crap rendering distance) because of all the polys and detailed scenery - but what if the map were just a wide, open sea with several assorted bases such as aircraft carriers and small islands etc. then we could have insanely large maps covering the scale of Freelancer (ala maybe 1000 km in radius- is it even possible?)
People would own anything from RL boats to tanker ships to helis to WWI fighters to jets to jet packs, perhaps imported ships from disco (even cars if we have a giant low poly mainland), trade commodities, pirate, do missions etc. And much more, if we add in a factor of people with guns, making exciting encounters such as actually arresting a person possible.
but in a sort-of realistic environment, which we could even fit into disco lore as one of the planets if we wanted to. And with integrated voice chat feature such as ArmA's, RP will be much, much more fluid.
I know SC is coming up, but tbh it's not 100% my idea of fun. And I know that if this mod or game is made, it would be awesome.
Unfortunately I don't know how to mod ArmA, but I imagine a concept demo would be low poly, a huge map of water with several assorted bases, and parked vehicles near spawn points. It would be awesome if anyone could point me towards resources to do so- my only map editor experience is limited to starcraft and Age of Empires.
No atmosphere? GTFO.
The propeller is the greatest invention of all time.
Planetside 2 is sandbox and has a large enviroment as well as vehicles - but absolutely no trading, it is a FPS shooter first and foremost!
Also, their devs idea of rp is still the chubby kid waving moms magic wand around pretending to be a great wizard or somthing( i actually read that) - other than that great game!!
If you dig a bit, try to find Privateer 2: The Darkening, which is a predecessor to freelancer and aside from the old graphics better gameplaywise!!
also, there is "Archimedean Dynasty" an extremely great post apocalyptic submarine game that hits the same vein, i think it had a 2nd episode, too - "realistic" steering, trading , missions...great game!
And if you want more trading, try the Subculture franchise - also submarine sandbox game
...ok...seems like they don`t make games like this anymore QQ
