Because of the recent hoo-ha with the russian server, I've been cruising the internet, looking for an appropriate copyleft agreement for use on the discovery mod, and i believe i've found it! have a quick look at this, tell me what you think.

GNU General Public License

There is no legal requirement to register your copyright with anyone; simply distributing the program makes it copyrighted. However, it is a very good idea to register the copyright with the US Registry of Copyrights, because that puts you in a stronger position against anyone who violates the license in the US. Most other countries have no system of copyright registration.


So, from my point of view, we don't need to register it anywhere, according to GNU, just spruce up this contract a bit and include it in the next disco mod!

I of course voted YES. If its possible to do it, i hope Igiss will...

GNU is against our interests. Creative Commons would be better, but I don't think we can issue a license for a mod that's part of Microsoft game which has no terms and conditions for mods. I think it's better to define conditions in readme, not via an official license. Those who would respect the license would respect readme notion as well. On the contrary, those who won't care about readme are most likely not to care about the license.
