i have a problem with silent traders
they do not fullfill rule 2
Discovery Freelancer 24/7 RP is a roleplaying server. Roleplaying is required while playing here.

so why the heck cant we report them for abusing RP ??

I am not a native English Speaker, so i make grammar errors.
But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!

This pisses me off the most, because while it is totally in-rp, it is also clear that the pirate just wants a blue message and ruin the player's fun Sad

I tried rp-ing an empty (cargoless) broke (poor) damaged (on fire) freighter once, didn't work out so well because pirates kept lolkilling me

Indeed I am a fan of cargo piracy myself, both as a pirate and a trader, but I know many aren't.
Cargo piracy though has the problem of being all or nothing, but at least the trader can make themselves feel better that they usually have control of who gets the cargo.

Oh come on, you'd have to spill a pretty good story about how you're on your way to pick up your first shipment of cargo EVER to get away with that. Is not keeping your life enough (inrp) motivation to pay a pirate? Having cargo does mean a transport is more likely to pay since he has more to lose at that time, however if a trader is like 'i'm empty so not paying' or 'i'm empty so go ahead and kill me its cheaper' then that should almost be sancitonable, not exactly inrp. Inrp you'd worry about having your ship blasted either way. Also, you'd have some money, regardless of whether you're full at the time or not.

Oh and if you don't know well enough to keep credits on your ship or to use the /drawcash command from a ship you do have credits on, you are just a liable to be destroyed. I've seen the defense ' I don't have credits on this ship' and if a pirate wants to accept that, fine, I wouldn't though. Around that time I start to suspect they're calling for help and give them a fixed time period to pay or indicate they will pay, lest they be blasted to high heavens. Reasonably though, demands upon empty cargo ships should be lower than full loads. So maybe not 10 mil, but 2-3 is not unreasonable.

I am, as I have said before, constitutionally incapable of playing unlawful. Tried once, I suck. That being said:

Unlawfuls have every right to indulge in their chosen form of antisocial behavior. (I'm talking about InRP here.)

Unlawfuls have every right, as does *everyone* on this server, to get good RP out of their encounters. (I admit, I sometimes I've been pirated one too may times and well, my RP is barely passable, but everyone has the right to expect me to *try*.)

But unlawfuls do *not* have the right to whinge about their victims not paying. Traders, miners, passers-by, whoever, have the right to A) pay, B) run or C) fight, so long as there is adequate RP.

I run battle transports for a reason. It gives me some time to decide if the RP is good enough to warrant my time or is this another '2milordie' moron, who is gonna get a curt 'get lost' from me. And, yeah, in the end I almost always decide to run or fight. It appears that I am equally incapable of playing a sheep.

It is huge inflation in Sirius.
Two years ago common demand was '2milordie', and now it is '10milordie'.
400% O_o.
Economic disaster is comming.

Hang on a second you claim the InRP angle then say a trader should use the drawcash command?
I am a poor businessman hired by a company to fly a transport for them on a wage, if I have valuable cargo then by all means ask for some, but now you want me to pay you a couple of years salary direct into your bank account?

Hey maybe InRP is not just your take on RP?

I have tried to negotiate with my parent company a few times to pay a ransome for my life, only once was I not killed for taking too long and ruining the pirates 10milordie 30 second RP by talking.

Well said a lot of people seem to forget that there is two parties involved and if neither is willing to entertain the other, what is the point.
A pirate has the benefit of choosing the location, price and timing of the encounter, as well as normally being more heavily armed hence choosing the victor of the encounter.
This places the onus of showmanship squarely on the pirates shoulders.
The Trader has the option of choosing to reciprocate as well as often choosing whether the pirate leaves with money or cargo.
This means that it is up to a smart trader whether he pays the pirate for his performance or not

I know sometimes I have payed more than the pirate has asked if I felt amused or indulged by the pirates performance.
By the same token I have sometimes just dropped my cargo and destroyed it, sometimes before the pirate gets into tractor range if I felt that is what the pirate is worth.
This is my right as the cash cow just as it is the pirates right to ask for money while having me outgunned as it is his role.

As a pirate I was once payed over seventy million credits after asking for two, so it goes both ways.
But a little understanding from each side goes a long way.

Some traders will just be silent as they have always been, even when asked for 50,000 credits.
But a lot more have since joined the ranks of the silent, and for a lot of them the reason can be found by pirates by simply looking in the mirror.

I feel like chucking in my 2 creds.

I have, in my many travels as a trader, been disappointed by pirates, or the lack of pirates in my case. I rarely seem to encounter pirates, but the few i have encountered RP'd well and were good experiences.

on the flip side, i tried pirating for a short while. I had 1 trader actually stop and RP with me. For actually RP'ing, i only charged him 1 mil which he happily paid.

The rest of the traders i tried to pirate, just stayed silent and kept thrusting.

To put it in perspective, i got more RP from an indie LN LABC and an indie LPI fighter. (i managed to RP my way out of the situation without being blown to smithereens)

So, as someone said earlier, its a vicious cycle. the 10MILORDIE pirates (and i actually dont think there are that many) cause traders to QQ and become silent traders. the silent traders then frustrate the pirates who actually RP, which leads to more pirates going down the bad route.

but then, IMHO, both 10MILORDIE pirates and silent traders should be cracked down on. the carrot and stick approach comes to mind.

Increase the repair costs of the transports 10 times together with the price of transport equipment.
Add some CD that needs to be mounted on torpedo slot but allows the user to fully stop even the pulse engine for 20 seconds, make it flakable so caps cannot be effected.
The silent kill me now running problem fixed.
In order to balance it out increase the price of the bots/bats/ammo on the unlawful bases by 5.
Also another great idea would be to bring back the transport thurst speeds to their normal levels since the transports are OP as fuck now, seems that this would make me to learn how to turret steer.
