I would also like to ask how do Ambush situations work.
I usually place 2 Indie Corsairs or Vega and Carlos at the Sigma 13 Jump Hole in Theta. I then jump to Sigma 13 and Taunt engage somebody in order for them to chase me. Then when they follow me into Theta they get jumped by a number of ships. Now according to the rules I am not allowed to Engage again then? Does this make any Sense at all?
Its like the Xenos..We march somewhere with some eight fighters, out comes a battleship when we're in a fight. Now, we have the choice of fighting and dying, or running and not being able to use those characters again.
What I'd like to see, is this rule changed...say..Running does not = death, but if they dock to buy stuff that = death.
"Freelancer Alpha dash niner, this is Freeport 7 control, You are cleared for departure. Good luck out there."
Soldato Zavier Benitez, Benitez flight instructor.
I see your point there Zav but where do we draw the line. When can you determine between someone retreating from battle or shield running...also dieing only means you can't engage.
5.6 If a player engages cruise engine or docks during a PvP fight, this player is considered fleeing. The fleeing player must not enter the system where the fight took place with any of the characters on his/her account(s) while the enemy (player or players involved in the fight) remains in the system, but no more than 4 hours.
by that you can still play your character...just within those restrictions...
5.7 A player who was killed in a PvP fight must not enter the system where the fight took place with any of the characters on his/her account(s) while the enemy (player or players involved in the fight) remains in the system, but no more than 4 hours.
same goes for dying...
5.8 A player who was killed in a PvP fight must not re-engage the enemy (player or players involved in the death) with any of the characters on his/her account(s) for 4 hours.
that one makes it clear that you cannot re-engage the enemy no matter where they end up going...i.e. just because the enemy moved to a new system does not mean you can start a new fight.
5.9 After a death in a PvP fight, players are recommended to switch to other characters (preferably with different role-playing status) for no less than 4 hours.
a recommendation...not really a rule
So to sum up...if you engage cruise you have lost the fight and for the sake of avoiding shield running you are considered the loser...I personally would like to allow for retreat in fleet battles to allow for regrouping but in 1v1 that would just be annoying...its a sticky issue...i hope ive helped in some way
Shield running, The first thing I was taught by TBH was when your shields are down in a fight, evade and jink like a mofo untill the go back up..So, "Shield Running" in a straight line and "Shield Running" jinking and jiving is the same thing mate..And you can prove it..You have a scan button dont you..if his bots and nanos are full all of a sudden, well, then you know..
Aye, but some battles are too thought-consuming to get a SS of a person before they run away. that's why cruise is a nice defining line. It's easy to spot and immediatly recognized.
And jinking is allowed, even thrustering away is allowed, cruising is not.
the shield running that is against the rules involves cruising out of range and returning...excessive dodging is fine by me and I use it readily and it is within the rules. You may even thruster out of range, if you can, since it is fairly easy for you opponent to catch back up to you in that case. Basically, if you cruise during battle, you better be fleeing.

vince, when you can avoid hits in fight so good, that your shields can regenerate, that is not shield running, because you are still in fight. when you interupt fight and go away for example 5k from enemy and come back with full shields, that is total different.
Good to know that the Phantoms aren't the only ones who get flamed for doing exactly what their RP dicates.
If they dropped your shields below 50% then you ran from the fight and should have stayed away for the four hours.
If they never hit you then you're just spectating.
From what treewyrm posted, I'd say they weren't even chasing you, they just happened to fly in the same direction as you did. Thought from what you posted about following them on your scanner, you were chasing them.
Remember, just because you have access to discovery scanners etc doesn't mean that they do, their limited to nomad ships and tech only.
Your allowed to use whatever you can afford to buy, whether its human, alien or a combination of both.
So, I have no problem with the keepers flying nothing but capships, they have alot less weapon and equipment choices then any faction with self-imposed restrictions.
Instead of dragging this mess onto the forums maybe you should have tried PMing an admin or talking to the keeper players privately.
We will debate the shield running thing over and over until Disco turns to dust.
2 things.
1. I hate the rule and would scrap it in a second if I was made President. (I know the arguements but I think the cure is worse than the illness).
2. It is a server rule and you will get sanctioned if you break it.
So until I become President and immediately scrap the rule you will just have to live with it... even though it make no RP sense.
There is a certain irony that on a RP server there is such a PVP orientated rule.
