So, I was reading this and this thread.
They were both talking about removing the Pirate ID.
I personaly enjoy the Pirate ID and whould not like if the ID was removed. I though to reply: "Alright, how about we remove the Freelancer ID then, eh? "
Then I though wait, this is realy a legit point.
What IF ,theoretically, the Freelancer ID was removed from the server? Think about it, there was never realy any other freelancers in vanillia to begin with. Besides, the Freelancer ID is as powerfull as the Pirate ID is some ways.
Prehaps removal of both ID's whould force people to use Faction ID's for good.
The Freelancer ID is not being removed. The objective is not to force people to use Faction IDs over the FL ID, and the proposal to remove the Pirate ID stems around the significant gameplay overlap between it and pirate faction IDs - an issue not so prevalent with the Freelancer ID.
No, because we have mercs with Freelancer IDs. Because we have smugglers with Freelancer IDs, Because we have Freelancers (sic!) with Freelancer IDs. The whole point of the game itself (named Freelancer) is to give a player an ability to Freelance through the sci-fi universe of Freelancer.
Amount of Freelancing in Freelancer is too damn high, yn. So we simply can't ignore that ID's existence for it's 100% legit.

Mercs can allways use Bounty Hunter ID.
Smuggulers can use Junker ID, Outcast and Corsair ID too.
Although, you bring up a pretty valid point with the Freelancers themselves.
Now I want you guys to Imagine what whould happen if, lets say, Freelancer ID gets removed for a few days or a week.
And I'd like to point out that I DO NOT want the Freelancer ID to be removed.
I only want a discussion.
This will remove peoples chance to RP a character how they want to.
Some people IRL prefer to be self employed because it gives them more freedom, and they don't have people telling them what to do.
Same with FL, if you can't use a Pirate ID in Liberty, then your only options are to RP a vanilla faction pirate, this restricts your RPing ability. You have less freedom if you're forced to RP a Hacker or Rogue, coz RPing them a certain way wouldn't make sense.
Also restricts people when they're making their own faction with certain goals, for the same reasons.
Obviously this all applies to the FL ID too.
Mercs can't use the BH ID, they can't hunt Navy players with a BH ID, coz they're both allies.
I personally think the freelancer ID should stay but the pirate ID should get nerfed by making several ones and restricting their ZOI so a liberty pirate ID would be one Bretonian pirate Id as another. I have a single FL ID' character and I like the freedom of movement and lack of rp other than what I made myself.
I think FL ID adds diversity, while Pirate ID takes it away.

While I agree with this statement , unfortunately every pirate ID-ed player I met has the same RP. That is why I don't like it really, and as all things that players like to abuse, those few ones who use it the right way lose something because of it.
Same thing happened with Junker ID before.

Except Outcast, Corsairs, and to an extent............ Junkers are already enemys of most lawful Factions. Having a big sign that says "BAD GUY" sort of takes away the whole point of Smuggling. The freelancer ID is perfect for this because Police and Military have no reason to suspect anything from you until they scan you.
