Here's my points why it used to be that great:
1. Toledo
Insane Order and BHG Core activity. I witnessed large scale fights every evening. Then we had the random LN's sneaking into Minor now and then. Plus the always present Keepers activity there. It was also the place where I had most of my Phantom encounters. Minor was an activity hub. It was a huge battlefield. Now it's a grave. Literally.
2. Outcast-Corsair War
I started as Outcast on this server in my early days. And it was the best decision I ever made on this server. We made war as so often the four-hour restriction would let us. The Alpha-Eta-Delta-Gamma route was perfectly balanced. Gamma/Alpha raids were even better than Texas KRIEG.
3. Delta activity-hub
Anyone who entered the Omicrons did pass Freeport 11 at least once. And we had the Iota JH right round the corner in Delta. The result was dozens of encounters every time I passed the system. And remember the Zoner-Corsair war. Everyone was involved, and we had 50 players shooting each other. The server didn't complain.
Today? I never dare to go there anymore. It's boring as <you know>. Every time I decide to check out the Omicrons - to see if things got better - I get slapped into the face. I even left most factions whose main playground was in the Omicrons, because it's no satisfying feeling to never find someone to RP with. Not to mention the freaking far distances between the systems/jumpholes.
Devs ruined it.
I think there was a thread about "how to fix the Omicrons" before update 6 got released. Though, on a quick view I didn't notice any difference at all.
Give me back my .85 Omicrons and I'll stay there forever until I die.
I'll add a +1 to that, but I think just blaming it on 1 or 2 "devs" (not sure who they actually were) would be be an understatement.
There were a whole bunch of people who worked very hard on ruining the fun that was present in 4.85 in the omicrons. The devs more or less were adapting the 4.85 omicrons to their wishes:
-People who wanted to eliminate all noobs-in-caps actimity in Minor
-People who wanted to stop the Order/LN clashes in Alaska.
-People who wanted to stop the Order/BHG clashes in the omicrons
-People who wanted to stop Alpha/Gamma raids
They were not jsut devs. They were faction leaders, l33t RPers, and people who thought they were. You can summarize all of those as people who wanted to reduce, preferably completely eliminate, PvP and noob activity, especially the PvP noob activity where noobs wouldnt always succumb to da pros, so that the server would be a heavenly eden of pros RPing with no noobs - PvP happening, ever.
Well, they got exactly what they wanted from the devs. But it turned out that their noobles-pvpless paradise was about as much fun as Dante's, and that what they thought was hell had actually been much better than their Shangri-La.
Same thing happened again with ZA. The ZA brought some activity fighting against indy nomads, and there was actually stuff going on again in the omicrons, even for a short while. Then, same people who ruined the 4.85 omicrons decided again: Wait... those are noobs, in caps, doing fighting, and we dont like their RP or lack of it, so we must control/destory it. And so, that activity died aswell, again.
Exactly same thing happened with alpha/gamma raids, Dublin, rheinland/LN war. Devs never ruin stuff on their own, they do it by giving certain people exactly what they want.

Well, regarding activity,if the trade is buffed up in the Omicrons as well as add to that a few mining spots and a hegemon buyable in any of the freeports, then we might have a good reason to have more transport class ships.
And the devs havent yet answered this question. What to do with the new transports that we get? They are never going to offer anything more than what the whale offers now.Since there is not many things worth trading out of the home systems(in a loop).Simply put,the whole place is a mess and clearly not balanced which is reflected in the fall of activity.Nothing worth to pirate, since there is no traders. And smuggling is even worse, with the ridiculous amount of time that is needed to move through systems and even ridiculous unlawful sell points QQ.
There needs to be another ZA-like thing, its just that we've decided not to actively participate in the omicrons as we used to - some people have a way of losing control when something big happens - it would be funny if it wasn't so obscene, or should that be the other way around?. I'll tell you one more reason why its so fake to even suggest develop something there. Everytime you try to make a move theres a pump guy who thinks he controls things and prevents you from doing it and/or tells you to shove all your wishes and follow his lead. Because no one visits those places anymore, those who had control over it can be the king and judge for future attempts by others. So, let's not all blame the devs, even though they ruin the game mechanics thus creating what I have mentioned earlier.

I honestly stopped reading here.
There's been, what, three tries at a different "ZA-like thing" now? And have any of them done anything positive and lasting for the omicrons?
No.
A short burst of activity as something as insane as the core and order calling a ceasefire to siege some OORPly supplied bases is not a good, lasting effect on the Omicrons.
I did say ZA-like and not just ZA didnt I? And Im also glad to see finaly that there are others to blame except the poor zoners. So yes Im in favour of another zoner faction pissing the veterans off, cuz you know - its fun, if only they could keep the game fair and not go out of boundries, but i guess its too much to ask. When the order is more focused on visiting places such as chogoku instead of iota, something is wrong - So devs are not at fault completely.
